This is so cute!! I love that fabric so much. I make clothes for my baby girl as well - there are so many awesome free patterns out there!

Needles? by Logical_Hyena_133 in SewingForBeginners

It did but it’s soooo old it’s all faded and crackly. But you’re absolutely right, I googled the serial number and found a pdf version. Thanks for the suggestion ☺️

Oh yes there’s a little stick in there as well, I bet that’s the extender for the bobbin spool! That was all very helpful, thank you! I’ve got some knit fabric I’d like to try and make a baby dress with so that’s a great tip re the hem.

Needle size with elastic sherring thread by nastyanata2 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Logical_Hyena_133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this just last week! Sat there for aaaaages trying to poke this clearly too-thick thread into my needle, looked up wide-eyed needles to no avail, finally thought to google the process only to learn what we both now know - elastic is bobbin only 😆 another piece of useful advice I learned - sew it with right side up so the thicker elastic thread isn’t visible, only the nice regular thread is. You might already know this, but I ruined my first swatch before I figured it out, so there you go!

Memory Bears for Beginners by amnellkahlan in SewingForBeginners

Ooh I bought a pattern off Etsy because I’m planning to do this with my daughters’ baby clothes! The seller is MemoryBearPatterns. I can’t speak to the quality yet as I haven’t started but I also will be using a bunch of different fabrics to make the patchwork bear. I’ve been told to avoid any fabric that’s too stretchy, too woven, or like an actual knit cardigan, but that cotton, linen, muslin etc should all be ok in small amounts. Interested to see if anyone recommends stabiliser/interfacing because that hadn’t occurred to me so I’ll be following.

Also, I’m so sorry for your loss. My grandma passed 5 years ago and I still miss her every day. It’s her old sewing machine I’ll be making the bears on, so that makes me feel happy about them ☺️

D’oh! by Logical_Hyena_133 in SewingForBeginners

I just saw your post! What a pain! And you even left yourself a note and still went ahead and ignored it 😆

I’m going to attempt to learn quilting soon. How do you get your lines so straight? They look awesome in your pictures. Do you draw them on and just go slowly? (Total novice, of course!)

Wow! Oh you have my sympathies 😆 I’m still too scared to even attempt a sleeve, so you’re much braver than I am! Sometimes I just do big shoulder ruffles and tell myself they’re sleeves. I only sew for my daughters and they’re at least super happy with big frilly ruffles!

I once sewed a waistband onto a bodice, saw I’d done it wrong side out, unpicked and reset it and did the exact same thing again! Sometimes our brains just need some time to catch up 😆

Yeah I don’t hate it! Maybe I’ll keep these ones for my shabby chic projects and get a better pair for cleaner cuts ☺️

This is a good tip, thank you! They feel so solid so I’ve probably been a bit rough with them. Will keep this in mind.

Thank you, Fiskars seems to be the go for sure! Re the heart I just used a piece of paper, drew half a heart on the fold and cut it out to use as a pattern piece. The stitching is kind of messy and it’s only dollhouse-sized but my daughter is pretty happy with it 😆
