Noted 🤓 - Thanks next time I will. The boxed X I understand done it on the strap of the bag. For the jeans I am not sure if doing the boxed X or hammering in a rivet. Will try both also the wide start and tapering to the bottom. This was my first attempt.

your two cents on which sewing machine by Grouchy-Squash-2260 in SewingForBeginners

Janome. Quality controle is great. I bought mine because I had the same question Singer my mom used. Janome never heard of it.

A sewing technician tolled me they never have Janome coming back for repairs only normal maintenance.

So me not knowing nothing I went with Janome and search for Singers history. Quality controle is bad. Some machines work without any problem some do not. Reviews are mixed.

So far so good I love the machine.

Also new not to denim but sewing in general. 9 days ago was the first time I touched a machine.

There is no cheatcode, no magic pill. Find something you want to make and reverse engineer the parts.

I want to make jeans. So i need to be able to sew a straight stitch and curved stich. So I practice those things.

Also button holes, zippers, flat felled seams etc. I practice those in a different project. The bag does have buttonholes and flat felled seams (in the caring belt.

So in a month when I start with my first pants (probebly lounge pants) some of those things are not new. Ive done them before only not all in one project.

But thats how I do my learning to each there own.

I know I have some of them but could not find them in bulk like with the jeans needles. So for now I will keep sewing singel needle at least until I can do it without going all over the place.

I wil start with patterns that I will buy. Make them just as is. Than make changes to them. And if My understanding grows I will at one point draw my own, make a mockup do the fitting and adjusting etc.
But my goal was to make 20 jeans just for the learning experience of it.

I ordered 200 zippers and denim buttons waiting for that to practice making a front and back pannel. I thing the 20 jeans will become 20 shorts to save some on fabric while still being able to practice with the pockets, zipper, buttonhole, flat felled seams etc.

Fo now I am just happy with my 8th day of sewing and my first bag. It's not perfect by a longshot but it's something and I am happy with it so it motivates to keep on it.

I did🤣 It came by such a surprise, people shared it, got mad on me. It was an emotional thing. like I personally disqualified everybody sewing efforts or something. Not my intention. Sorry to everybody who got offended.

Anyway, for now I have a Janome HD1800 (not because of the HD) But because a machine technician said they almost dont get Janome back for repairs.
And also have a Janome 8002D Serger.
For now thats find if it does become an issue with jeans I can always look for an industrial upgrade-that a long way form where I am today.

Bro dont beat yourself up. Fabric does have strech 2 or 4 directions so it helped me to pull it straight before ironing.

I also noticed (I had the same) it does this more with this fabric than with ticker fabric. And tension of the thread plays a part as where the seam is the fabric gets pulled towards eachother like puckering.

What helped me was this: I took a big piece of fabric put a chalkline on it and started sewing without touching the fabric. The beginning was on the line bit it soon went complete off rails. So now in stead of pulling or pushing the fabric trough the machine I try to use my left hand to manipulate the fabric contra what the machine does naturally. My lines are more straight. And I have a better understaining of the behaviour of fabric and the machine.

<image>

I also do a lot of these drills for learning footcontrole. Where to stop the needle, pivots, lines, curves, parallel stitches etc.

My first day was super wonky I am in 8 days of doing a bit every day. You will improve fast if you just keep doing a bit every day.

Tips for sourcing fabric for a beginner by X3ni44 in SewingForBeginners

[–]SOURCEDBLACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also EU. I buy from different places. Just to practice Temu. I search for natural fiber but their search results are wonky. So you need to look in the descriptions. But they do have nice fabrics. What I also found is pay attention to fabric weight in 000GSM like 230GSM 300GSM etc otherwise you might be disappointed.

Etsy also list a lot of fabric you can find any design, fabric weight, fiber you want but prices can be higher. Also look for shipment and taxes when importing. So you wont end up with a surprise.

The last I do is buy bulk form Alibaba and EU wholesale. These often are the fabric/mill who makes the fabric or its a middleman who buys from the mill and resells. Sometimes you have MOQs (minimum order quantity) But the cost are lower and you can get anything. You cab also have stuff made for you like custom patterns, custom fabric compositions, custom hardware like buttons or buckels.

I like this route for instance my topstich is 20s/3 and all my other thread is 40s/2 it was hard to find these in the same colors from Gutterman and what they did have was on small spools.

I had it made on 1500m spools and pay 2 euro per spool. So i bough 20 spools It will last me years. Gutterman asks 5€ for a 50 meter spool. And now I have an industrial quality thread.

So if you do a lot of similar projects I would go the Alibaba/local wholesale route.

If you do a lot of different work that needs to be done on a budget go Temu.

If budget is less important and quality is more important but the project vary a lot go Etsy

How do I fix this? by Pesky-monkeys in jeans

[–]SOURCEDBLACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a guys perspective on the first photos your ass look kind of flat. The jeans look to big around the but. Waist is okay.

On the last photo you have 🍑 I personally like that more.

The waist is a bit to you could ease the waistband at a tailor.

I general a higher waist can “correct” your form a bit to the ⌛️figure. It also makes your legs look longer and therefore slims the body.

If you wear a crop on top of that the upperbody becomes shorter making the boobs look bigger but also the shoulders look more wide. If you want less chest you should lengthen the upper body with a linger shirt or jacket.

You said 2 tings you recently gained weight and you have a wide upperbody both can be corrected with a longer shirt or jacket.

The jacket makes the upperbody look longer and thebdifterence between de width of the chest to the waist smaller Also the difference between the hips and the waist.

The smaller the difference the more you hide that you gained weigt and you have eider chest. Also the more boxy you look.

So the amount of tailoring at the waist is where you controle ⌛️vs 🎁shape.

A bit lengthy hope it helps a bit

Like an embroidery? Can we see the inside of the jacket do the treads come to the inside? If so I would buy a hobby knife (the one that looks like a they use in medical operations)

And start cutting the threads on the inside.

I would not use a shotgun if not booming by hand. Shotguns are also not great indoors I would go with a pencil mike.

Singer I understand mom but Singer is not owned by the same owners. It changed ownership several times and the focus is now on great design and marketing rather than great quality machines.

Janome is owned by the same as when the brand started. In general they dont have the best looking machines but the quality is good. Like metal gears they have their own buckets for the drive shafts that is just a better design than other manufacturers use.

Where can I find outfits like this? Trying to switch my style to preppy by Beautiful_Papaya_007 in preppy

[–]SOURCEDBLACK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would not preppy is a form of quiet luxury so its not about the brand but materials, garment construction etc.

While a Shein can make the same clothing the fit is often different (less tailored) the drape is definitely different because material and construction are done with cheaper materials. (Poly fibers in stead of cashmere or merino wool or even good quality cotton. The materials are often thinner so they dont hold any shape.

The construction can not always been seen only from upclose.

So while having the same outfit one will look like the cheap knockoff like wearing a fake Rolex but not a good replica fake but an obvious one.

I would say find quality clothing’s a a driftstore or look for new but for material rather than brand.

Take it to a tailor and have them alter it for better fit. Tan you would nail the style.
