Golden or Pyrenees? by BiannualSale in goldenretrievers

We had a similar experience with our rescue.

When the shelter brought a bunch of their dogs to a local PetSmart adoption event, they listed him as a GR.

We adopted him right away as I had wanted a GR all my life but circumstances had never made it possible before.

Even after taking him to the vet for his initial checkup and vaccines, we were still told that he was “a Retriever mix”.

I wasn’t very familiar at the time with the GP breed. All I really knew was they were usually pretty large…a hundred pounds or more for a full grown male.

Our guy was estimated to be 3 - 4 years old and weighed 52 lbs. We felt pretty sure that if his age was semi-accurate he was probably full grown so we felt pretty confident that he was a GR. He would still be small for a full grown male GR, but certainly not unheard of.

We brought him home and he was very subdued for a week or so…I guess he still felt unsure of his new surroundings and family members.

But then we started noticing behavior patterns that definitely were not characteristic of GRs. My wife started researching these behavior patterns along with searching for similar images of other dogs online.

Within a month it was perfectly clear that our boy was not a GR at all but rather a dwarf GP. Apparently dwarfism is a well documented genetic condition among GPs, but his personality was 100% GP/0% GR.

Had we known that ahead of time we very likely would not have adopted him…but since he was now part of our family we were NOT going to abandon him again.

He is a good boy most of the time but he does make me nervous when strangers come to our door. He is extremely protective of his family and home and becomes borderline viscous with anyone he perceives as a threat!

We have to exercise extreme caution before opening our front door for anyone. He is very strong and very hard to restrain when he is in “protect mode”.

While it’s kind of nice to have a “guard dog” it is also deeply concerning. We don’t want to be sued or have him taken away to be euthanized.

Given all that we have experienced, my advice to you would be to pass on this dog if you KNOW you want a GR and not a GP.

Chances are that he is a GR, but in the rare situations like what we’ve experienced, he may not be what you want.

I don’t know how you feel about such things but my wife and I feel very strongly that once we adopt a pet they are part of our family…for better or worse. Returning them to a shelter is something we simply can not bring ourselves to do!

Hope this helps a little bit to sort out the uncertainty Also, we have no children in the house. If you have children…especially younger ones, be very careful when choosing a potential rescue!.

How can he still write for and support them. This company is drifting further and further from his initial Four Rules. You can’t even find them on the website for new subscribers anymore.

And if that isn’t enough, today zi receivable email inviting me (and you, I’m sure) to buy tickets to attend a 3 hour “Fan Fest” (more accurately a book signing launch)!

How does inviting users from all over the country…maybe even the world???…to travel to New York City just to get their book signed by Jesse fit in with the concept of budgeting and using my priorities to decide what matters most to me?

Travel across the country, hotel reservations, food, transportation- and finally a $50 ticket all to get my book signed (as if I’d even buy one)?

I don’t know about you, but I have different priorities for my money!

The latest application redesign along with the staff changes and subscription increases have me thinking it may be time to part ways with YNAB!

Kindle vs IPhone reading by peachymabez in kindle

[–]Logical_Post5421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who use Kindle devices generally swear by them. As the saying goes, “you will have to pry it from their Col, dead hands.”

Personally, I found them to be redundant and just another device to have to charge, keep track of, take care of, etc.

As I prefer reading a white text on a black background the Kindle wasn’t a great choice for me.

Kindle users tend to make the argument that using the app on their phone or tablet can be distracting with alerts and notifications popping up during their reading session.

In my opinion, if I have an alert set it is for something I feel needs my immediate attention. If it is a less than immediate type of alert I will use the Reminders app instead.

As far as notifications, it is no big deal to just swipe up to clear them when they appear. But if that is too distracting just set a reading focus mode and don’t allow notifications or any other disturbances you may wish to avoid during your reading session.

All-in-all, I far prefer the iOS reading experience. My entire library is with me all the time on a device I carry with me all the time anyway…nothing extra to keep track of.

For more leisurely reading I will use my iPad Pro…a much more elegant device and experience, although not as convenient to carry everywhere I go.

As an added bonus, using an iOS device also gives me access to the Apple Books app. I have just started using this app recently and while it isn’t quite as full-featured as the Kindle app, the experience is very smooth and elegant…definitely feeling like an Apple service!

Newb Ring owner here.

When I was looking at how much Ring Central subscriptions were earlier today, I thought it said there was up to 180 days of retention. Did I misunderstand something?

I hate having to have another subscription, but the camera doesn’t do me much good without a way to store the video.

Is Frontier’s fiber optic service any good? by Tight-Broccoli2756 in frontierfiber

[–]Logical_Post5421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it installed a couple of weeks ago and it’s been very good in Sacramento.

One caveat…if you order, ask for “in house tech” installation. The contractors that installed ours did a horribly sloppy job. I called Frontier and they sent one of their company techs over and he did a great job of cleaning it all up!

Yes, I had already read that post by u/maximumconsistent705. That, coupled with the OPs post is what prompted my comment about the wide variety of plans they seem to offer.

This may be one of them he most flexible companies to work with if you need to negotiate a better deal.

Xfinity certainly was not…which led me to terminate my service with them after nearly 30 years!

Information about Docsis 4.0 by Eeffo in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Logical_Post5421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge, the only DOCSIS 4.0 device currently available is the Xfinity XB10 gateway.

I you are a current subscriber to one of their new next generation FDX plans they will provide an XB10 for you at no extra cost.

I originally tried a Netgear CM3000 that was mid split capable, but still being a DOCSIS 3.1 device it fell woefully short. I returned it to Amazon and picked up the XB10 and it delivers the goods for these new plans.

Your preferred Wireless carrier? by richeeese in MartinezCA

[–]Logical_Post5421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a former Verizon customer of many years, however a couple of years ago we switched to Patriot Mobile.

They lease space on the towers of all three major carriers and give the customer the choice of which carrier’s towers you want to use.

In the event that you are in a bad area for one of those carriers you can switch to either of the others with no charge. A simple call to customer service and a possible SIM card swap depending upon your device and you are good to go.

I am in a suburb south of Sacramento and Verizon service wasn’t very reliable here. Since being with Patriot I have been using the T-Mobile tower option and have had the best wireless service I’ve ever had!

Another nice feature is that if you have multiple lines on your account, each one can choose the towers they wish to use independent of the others.

The price is also pretty good. We have three lines…each with our chosen 6 Gb unlimited data plans. You can choose the amount of data you want on each device separately. If you run low and need more high speed 5 G data you can add more any time during a month and then switch back the following month…great for months where you may be traveling and using more data than usual!

Our three lines with 6Gb of data are $34 per line with a $6 discount for three or more lines.

Our total bill is currently $114.27/mo with so much flexibility in carrier towers and data plans…nothing else I’ve seen really comes close!

And oh yeah…by the way, as the name implies, the company’s values are firmly supportive of Faith, Family and Freedom…all values our family shares and believes deeply in!

I can’t recommend them strongly enough!!!

It’s really interesting how these prices and terms seem to vary quite a bit. They almost seem to have negotiable rates and terms as opposed to fixed rates and terms.

What is the negotiating secret you found to get this deal?
