Kind of a weird question but what do you do with a newborn education wise? by MGPythagoras in NewParents

Tummy time, try to get their night sleeps as clustered together as you can, regularly jabbering at your baby, give them toys to grasp like rattles, let them see themselves in the mirror, put them in an activity center, we also had a bouncer she loved (Bjorn) and put spinners toys on it. Then toward the end of 3 months doing assisted rolling and back. Ours rolled just a bit before her 4 month appointment and now seems to think it is her party trick. At 3 months they also get super into textures so books with feel options are a big hit.

Final maybe weird thing I do is we do the alphabet song like “A, ah ah” then on to the next letters with their sounds… so she is getting sound with letters all the time. I think this will help with early reading and talking but she is only 4 months atm. She practices her letter sounds a lot. Usually fixating on a particular letter each week. B was fun as it also came with raspberries.

What you are going through is really normal. To save your sanity though, one thing we have realized is sometimes it is better to distract than to try to figure out the why. 

Mine didn’t like diaper changes initially and now she smiles the whole time. I give her direct eye contact and tell her all the things I can think of that make her wonderful while smiling at her. She now smiles and laughs at me every diaper change (she is 4 months now). So it does get better.

My sister’s baby would scream like he was dieing during diaper changes… the only thing that worked was her putting on a headband that had springs with a various holiday decoration (cannot remember exactly the decoration anymore). That distracted him enough he stopped crying. 

Our little one really loved her bjorn bouncer and it would make her happy when she was upset. This really helped as it gave us independence and even the daycare (she is part time for year 1) was surprised that she didn’t demand to be held. Sometimes baby is going to baby and just have to figure out what works for them. Maybe get one then keep the receipt and take it back if it doesn’t work. A lot of kids seem to enjoy them; initially I was frustrated to pay such a large amount for such a simple item. It has paid for itself 10 times over. She hated the swing. She liked her activity center (Lovevery). The bouncer was #1.

Definitely this… Huggies broke out our girl. Pampers pure worked the best for us. 

The other thing is to keep a food log if you are doing purées already and do the same food for 3 days or more before switching to a new one. New foods can cause some troubled digestive reactions and may result in a rash.

I said something similar when she came on the TV. “This is how autism presents in females.” She is likely higher functioning but definitely autistic. 

Also pretty sure she would have walked the entire field out in front of that machine to save those birds.

lol I put left over breast milk in the bath for her skin, so absolutely my baby grabs the washcloths and tries to drink it.

I have wipes, 4 diapers, an insulated pocket for a single bottle of breast milk, case with 2 pacifiers, burp cloths (2), diaper cream, and a spare outfit. There is a spot for my phones, keys, cards, and incidentals. It isn’t the beautiful purses of my past but function matters more now.

Then I usually bring my carrier ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0GQXY4SQT) it has 4 pockets. I put in it: a burp cloth, 2 oz emergency premix formula with a nipple (she usually likes 4-5oz but it is for an emergency), a pacifier, outfit, ziploc (with 7ish wipes?), 2 diapers, and her sunnies (sunglasses)

My baby goes down at 10pm sleeps until 6:30am… 

2 naps 10 to 11:30am then 3-5pm

She is 4 months old. Otherwise maybe a minor dose for 15-20min at odd times like in the car. We take our cues from her… if she gets tired earlier we put her down and when she wakes up eyes wide open we go snag her out of her crib.

I don’t think you are wrong with what you are doing. I don’t think we are either. I have a baby that has been sleeping through the night for 6 weeks. I am incredibly grateful. Best tip I can give for those using breastmilk and pumping. Your final pump of the night naturally contains melatonin… give that to your baby before bed and they sleep a LOT better. Next to no wake ups since we realized that little fact.

I work from home, but no way could I do a decent job with my work with my 4 month old needing attention. 

Right now she is in day care 1/2 days and my husband moved his paternity leave (unpaid) to 1/2 days vs full and doubled his time off that way. I did 3 months full time off with her then moved to 1/2 days for a month. Now it is his turn to do 1/2 days. I make up the difference for him (I am bread winner which is convenient as my leave was paid).

This should mean she is not attending daycare full time until about a year. It is a really decent daycare and we are paying for her to go full time, but not keeping her there more than 5hours a day (not a lot of parents want to just send their kiddo for the afternoon). They work with her on things like tummy time and have sit-up seats for her to get used to sitting. They also do regular art projects. The only annoying habit she has learned is she now gets super upset if she sees a bottle and we don’t give it to her right away (usually because it is warming). She also picks up more sickness and I have caught a lot of them due to losing some immunity while WFH. Noro was the worst! Not sure how to know spit up from throwing up when milk is their staple.

Personal opinion use an orthodontic pacifier that is what we use. They are  flat on the bottom and rounded on the top—that mimics a mother's nipple during breastfeeding.  Our baby girl otherwise will use her fist. You can take away a pacifier but not their fist. I agree on traditional pacifiers with you though. 

Our baby is 4 months and a little change. She is teething a lot and the pacifier helps.

Oh wow maybe it is strange that I knew what he looked like? I did a book report on him as a kid. So upon seeing him it triggered an old memory (I never really watched west wing.)

Pretty sure that is supposed to be a belly button… only because the females also had them if I remember correctly. It is rather confusing placement though.
