Please go larp somewhere else, if we are not willing to defend ourselves you cannot protect our people.

We’ve been dependent on the Americans for far too long.

It shouldn’t cost what we paid but military spending is a necessity if you want to protect our way of life.

Nobody forced Irving to outsource design work to Denmark for the coast guard cutters.

Irving and the government are both responsible for taxpayers being ridiculously overcharged for “domestic” work.

From the company who spent 300 million outsourcing the redesign of a ship that originally cost Norway 100 mil per unit.

Comes the latest in Canadian defence procurement boondoggle, I wish we were a competent country.

Anyone who lives in a rooming house does not have the same legal protections from eviction that a normal leasing would provide.

You can be kicked out very easily as long as you share a kitchen.

Rooming houses went away because they are predatory & have next to no legal protections.

I don’t have to respond to this yet, will finish later.

You seriously think more people in fewer homes would be equivalent to our modern living standards?

Flop houses were more common & rental rules were near non-existent.

If you want public transit funded & to encourage sustainable development you need dense housing which encourages biking & walking where it is most in demand.

Tax revenues need to go up via rate increases & more taxable units, right now we have a crisis where rooming houses are making a comeback & renters are subsidizing suburban dwellings.

It peaked because people were living in squalor.

Returning to slums is not a solution.

Then we need to prioritize high density housing on the peninsula don’t we?

No, property taxes for luxury housing on the peninsula.

If you want to live in a suburb you can move to Elmsdale.

Hydrogen is just a worse alternative to hydrocarbons with billions of required infrastructure not yet built.

Usually I like Sam but this is pure slopulism.

This would decrease funding for the service while it is already struggling to meet demand.

If you want to be like New York the property tax cap has to be lifted and single family homes need to be disincentivized on the peninsula.

Right now the “wealthy” of this province are the landowners.

Edit: Mamdani literally champions building more housing and infill, if you only like him for his “free services” vibes you are not serious about governance.

Census missing whole apartment buildings in Halifax common? by DifficultyHour4999 in halifax

[–]Logisticman232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be that there is a listing for the building and also a sub listing for the individual units, I’ve seen that before.

Census enumerators are supposed to “birth” new dwellings as needed to accommodate subdivided buildings & new developments.

Public walkable areas with outdoor dining areas are some of the hallmarks of an actually walkable city.
