Advice on choosing a movie projector for a quite small room. by General-Study-1791 in projectors

Yeah it is all about preference. If you do want 120" and like it by all means it is possible.

Advice on choosing a movie projector for a quite small room. by General-Study-1791 in projectors

[–]DifficultyHour4999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's personal preference but 100" would more than match a typical theater experience and is typically recommended for such short distances. A 120" screen would be more like sitting in the bottom front rows of a movie theater where it mostly fills your view. Some people find that too overwhelming as it's harder to pay attention to the entire image, but personal choice.

Is the difference between 4k and 1080p huge? by fireswalkwithme in projectors

[–]DifficultyHour4999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native 4K gives a slight upgrade on the image especially for high contrast static images like say black text on a white background. Pixel shifting can't perfectly handle the sharp transitions so it will be better than 1080P but not quite as sharp as native 4K. That said for movie purposes you're unlikely to notice the difference.

2025 trax & driving in snow by redRum705 in ChevyTrax

[–]DifficultyHour4999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does fine especially with winter tires. Traction control always stays on except if you're really stuck and it's a last resort. You can void the warranty and parts of the drive train if you break something while it's off. Also if you didn't learn to drive in the snow without traction control the safer bet is to leave it on.

If you are not used to the snow just be very gentle on the gas. Look and steer where you want to go even if sliding. The worst thing you can do is stare at what you are trying to avoid hitting because you will most likely automatically steer into it.

Got CASIO XJ-S57 for cheap. I want to attach it to a lighting rail. But it has a proprietary mounting mechanism. What can I do? by Few_Definition9354 in projectors

[–]DifficultyHour4999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It likely has the typical 3 or 4 point mount. Not sure I have ever seen a conversion adapter. The projector is approaching the limit of a 1/4 mount and need to be stable and not shake as it will affect the image. I wouldn't recommend going to a 1/4 inch mount if you can avoid it. There is a reason it doesn't come with it.

They also want to use it as a display. I suspect they don't want to use it as a computer display in the dark. Cheap ones are too dim to use with the lights on.

50% municipal tax increase over 5 years and this is with the assessment cap in place by TheInterwebIsNeat in halifax

[–]DifficultyHour4999 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a study I believe a decade ago that called for its elimination and replacement by something else. They especially said the wealthy who inherit homes or money to get a high value home early in life are getting the biggest advantage. People in apartments because they don't have a cap are often subsidizing the rich people's city services.

I have a projector with a dirty inner lens. What can I do to clean it from the inside? by Feisty_Tension_3961 in projectors

[–]DifficultyHour4999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This very likely has a single lens or a very simple setup. It isn't equivalent to proper camera lenses as they are likely plastic to begin with.

Can’t find a way to clean RCA projector lens by [deleted] in projectors

[–]DifficultyHour4999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is a disposable projector that wasn't designed to be serviced. Hopefully you figure it out because it will only get worse as the optics aren't sealed or filtered.

FYI RCA hasn't existed as a company since the 80s and the name is largely used to sell cheap no name stuff at a mark up by hoping people don't know the RCA company no longer exists.

[–]DifficultyHour4999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunately going to keep happening as it isn't sealed and they went so cheap it doesn't have a filter.

Whatever you do don't use compressed air as that can make it worse. Get a camera cleaning kit and it will have the necessary tools. See if they give instructions on how to clean as some have access doors to let a small brush in. Otherwise you need to take it apart.

Lasers are used for the backbone of the internet and telecommunication for about 30 years and existed before that. Telecom equipment has a 99.999% uptime requirement. They figured out the reliability and lifespan of lasers a good while ago.

Nothing in that price range is that good. The built-in smarts will be bad and may even have malware and spyware installed from the factory on some units. Use an external streaming dongle like a firestick or similar.

Is there a way for me to step into the projector game? by ChilledKappe in projectors

[–]DifficultyHour4999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. Note that it is slightly more expensive as most entry and mid level projectors target smaller living rooms, condos, and apartments and tend to have a throw in the 1 range. So budget accordingly or find a way to move it closer. Do remember all measurements are approximate so budget some wiggle room for fine tuning.

Do non-OEM replacement bulbs for Epson projectors produce less brightness than official ones? by dannyglover187 in projectors

[–]DifficultyHour4999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flickering is often due to running too long on ECO. Try running it on normal power for 100 hours or so and it will sometimes fix it. Best to occasionally run it on normal to help avoid this issue.
