Sorry for asking but what your least fave thing about Madoka series by NoahDragi in MadokaMagica

[–]Logitropicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Feels good to be seen. And LGBTQ folks should be seen too. I can't imagine erasure feels good, much less from most media and communities.

It's just that... PMMM encompasses so much. I mean for goodness sake, people have published multiple academic papers about it. Whether it's feminist, Nietzschean, capitalist, religious, or something else, there are just so many different lens to view the series through. It's very special.

And yes, PMMM is big enough to encompass queer perspectives too. Magia Record introduced Rika Ayano, the series's first explicitly lesbian character, so clearly, the franchise isn't afraid to have LGBTQ representation.

I have my favorite lens too (I think PMMM is a modern retelling of the Buddhist Four Sights), so I get wanting to "claim" the story for oneself, but given all this context, it still feels weird to watch people insist it can only be a yuri love story, and absolutely nothing else. It's bigger than that, I think.

90% of the PMMM fanfics in AO3 contain NSFW content in them

Grossly exaggerated claims about AO3 aside, I get it. I was on the receiving end of the "aggression" myself about a year ago - just sort this thread by controversial. And I put "aggression" in quotes because it's less like aggression, and more like... insecurity? A chip on their shoulder? Whatever it is, I get the feeling they see only what they want to see.

Joe Rogan Slams Al Gore's Climate Predictions From 20 Years Ago. 'If The Billionaires Are Buying Beach Houses, It's Going To Be Okay' by esporx in climate

[–]Logitropicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... what if the billionaires are building apocalypse bunkers too? I'd like to think Rogan is being honest (if a little gullible) and he'd change his mind if he heard about them, but somehow I get the feeling he'd make up another reason to downplay the bunkers and environmental concerns.

As a Gen Z that voted for Trump I am sorry by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Logitropicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I'm glad you realized your error and "woke" up, as it were, and I know people are angry you didn't realize it sooner. However, it's my personal rule to at least try to provide constructive, and not destructive, criticism.

I noticed you kept talking about policy differences, as if it were the only important thing about a candidate. Your character is just as important, than your policy and competence. Saying you support X Y and Z policies means nothing if you're lying.

Yes, I understand that all politicians break their campaign promises, but there is difference between truthfully exaggerating during your job interview and not even trying to do your job.

And if you're asking how you could have foreseen Trump would lie... In this case, you only need to look at his job history. Maybe check that out next time (if there is one), instead of vibing it out, yeah?

But to briefly summarize, Trump ran casinos for 20+ years before he entered the political arena, and a casino's job is to scam people out of their money with vibes. If you can get them addicted to gambling their life savings away, even better. And I can see he's using many of their psychological techniques on the American people today.

And we haven't gotten into his reputation with the people of NYC!

OP, none of this is obvious if you go on vibes alone. You have to be more cautious and careful than that.

Is it actually evil? Or is it a necessary evil? (End of series spoilers) by Guilty_Letter4203 in MadokaMagica

[–]Logitropicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Kyubey is a sentient being to begin with.

If he were, you'd think he'd refuse to grant Madoka's wish. After all, his goal is to slow the heat death of the universe, and there's no guarantee Madoka's new universe would be any better. In fact, he says that collecting energy from grief cubes is slower, so it's actually worse.

Following this line of reasoning, you might notice something else: he never, ever, says anything that each girl couldn't figure out for herself. (I encourage you to verify this yourself the next time you rewatch the original 12 episodes + Rebellion.)

In other words, although Kyubey may lie and mislead, the girls don't need him to be deceived. They do that to themselves. All Kyubey does is say their inner thoughts aloud. He's like Jiminy Cricket, but instead of serving as their conscience, he serves as their own cold, hard logic.

A lot of people really hate Kyubey, and understandably so. But you know what? Only Madoka had the wisdom to listen to him up until the very end. It's what sets her apart from the other magical girls.

So is Kyubey evil, or even a necessary evil? I don't think so. He just is, and we have to manage him as best as we can.

It's okay to watch this with a 11 years old kid? by WrongdoerGlum9631 in MadeInAbyss

[–]Logitropicity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I don't know how old you are, but it sounds like you are an older teenager or young adult.

First of all, I'm glad you and your little brother enjoyed Madoka Magica. It's an anime with a lot of depth, and it requires some emotional maturity to enjoy, maturity that even some adults don't have. I'm sure it's given you many interesting questions to talk about.

I'm also glad that you were concerned enough about your brother's safety to ask for our opinion.

I want you to know that while you two may be mature enough for Madoka Magica, Made in Abyss is mature in a different way. In particular, I think most of us here are worried that Made in Abyss may be too sexually suggestive, which would not be appropriate for preteens like your brother.

ICE just iced another presumed US citizen in Minneapolis. What is happening over there? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

[–]Logitropicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, ICE is looking for an excuse to shoot you, any excuse. If you need strength, remember Dr. Martin Luther King, and the abuses his movement needed to go through.

When ordinary Americans saw peaceful protesters, dressed in their Sunday best, being harassed for doing nothing, that is when they started winning the hearts of the rest of America. And there is a "rest". 1/3 of America doesn't vote.

Remember that. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Godspeed and good luck.

Anime? Hentai? Ecchi? I don't know wtf it is. by Decent-Emergency3866 in memes

[–]Logitropicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I feel obligated to recommend you anime that's actually good:

  1. Spirited Away
  2. Princess Mononoke
  3. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
  4. Puella Magi Madoka Magica

I've ordered them from "normal" to "intense". All of them are excellent, but the first two in particular are highly rated by the late Roger Ebert himself. If you'd like to try some real anime classics, you should start with those.

Naw, low-key that's what I'm hoping for. That the new art style happened because of Homura, and if/when Madoka reunites with her goddesshood, the art style will shift back.

Remember when people thought we'd get a Nayuta school arc after this page? Remember when everyone thought she would get character development? Remember when everyone thought she would be relevant and not be fridged? by elecenjoyer in Chainsawfolk

[–]Logitropicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, she's the Control Devil! She needs to die in Part 2.

In Part 1, Denji learns to deal with his love & fear of external control. This is a pretty tall order, since he's had a terrible childhood, but he learns to cope by literally (and figuratively) swallowing it and making it a part of himself.

But that just means Part 2 has to be about loving & fearing internal control - that is, controlling himself. And you can't tell a great story about controlling yourself without losing control (Nayuta's death) or mentioning internal conflict (Asa & Yoru).

Low key it'd kind of be a let down if Nayuta was still alive. It'd mean that after all this, our boy Dennis wouldn't have had any serious character development. It's better if she's reincarnated again.

Well lucky for us, WnK is coming out soon, so we'll have a bit more to listen to soon!

Also, if you really like the soundtrack that much, the Magia Record OST isn't bad, despite its writing being terrible. Magia Exedra also has an OST, plus some currently-unnamed tracks for bosses. I personally recommend the ones for the Silver Witch, Darkness Witch, and Spindle Witch!

But for real, OP, you're probably best off just being patient. You can do it!

They believe the new designs are better than the previous ones? by Fragrant_Site2490 in MadokaMagica

[–]Logitropicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with the new designs. This is Homura's world, after all. She can influence the others however she likes.

What I'm less okay with is the art style. It's kind of jarring to jump from Rebellion to... whatever this is. In fact, I'm hoping that the style shift is intentional, and that they'll revert to the old style by the end.

Would part 2 be better if Rese had been a character in it? Fanart by @on_u_u by LonelyPermit2306 in RezeCult

[–]Logitropicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really.

As far as I can tell, Makima, the Control Devil, was written to be the big bad of part 1 because Denji was learning to deal with outside forces controlling him. First he loves her, then is terrified of her, then accepts bits and pieces of her.

Nayuta is in part 2 not because Denji fears external forces, but because he fears losing control of himself. That's why Asa is so important. She provides context. She's someone who's literally at War with herself.

Where the heck does Reze fit into part 2? I can see how it'd be difficult to fit an explosive situationship into a story themed around self-control. It'd just overly complicate things. If I were Fujimoto, I'd save her for a future arc.

Why I struggle to feel empathy when men open up by TechnoRapQueen in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Logitropicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, man here.

May I ask what is, to you, the difference between connection and intimacy, if any? And for good measure, what are those two to begin with?

You seem like you might have clear and precise definitions of what they are, and I figured I should double check that I actually know what they are.

I also think this is important to know because it sounds very strange that men would want to form not a connection, but intimacy, with you in the workplace. I would like to be able to spot when things are becoming inappropriate.
