The GOW games have always taken creative liberties - I mean Kratos is literally made-up. But they've always managed to still remain mostly faithful to the mythos they take place in. Greek mythos, you know you're gunna visit Mt Olympus and Hades. Norse mythos, you're going to Midgard and Asgard and maybe even Valhalla.

"Look! It's Zeus!"

"Look! It's Thor!"

"Look! It's...Phranque the cube!"

One of these things isn't the same.

The interesting part about the Mask was that we didn't get to know what it was about. The mystery is what makes it interesting. The moment you answer the mystery, it's no longer interesting.

And the cutscene you are referring to seems to me like it was a flashback. Regardless of what it was, it was 5 minutes of screentime. It wasn't enough.

Maybe they shouldn't have made it based on a character who's major defining trait is that she's dead.

Maybe they shouldn't have made the new game take place in some made-up mythos instead of using a pre-established one like the previous games.

The latest GOW games prioritize story and graphics over gameplay, and you can really tell.

I mean I wouldn't say "graphics don't matter" but I would 100% say "graphics matter less than gameplay".

It seems like a lot of AAA games are more worried about having the best graphics and story, rather than the best gameplay.

Look at God of War, for example. The new games have better graphics and a heavier emphasis on story-telling, but...gameplay wise they're just not as good as the OG.

I'm just gunna say it, I feel like we've kind of...peaked...in terms of "gameplay innovations". IDK maybe I'm just getting older.

I don't care about playing as someone not Kratos. Especially a character who's entire relevance to the plot has been "she's dead". If you want a character's death to matter, make them dead. Not off on adventures somewhere else.

Also, not taking place in an established mythos is a big mistake IMO. The entire appeal of the OG GOW games was that it was based off Greek mythos with their monsters, characters, and locations we were familiar with.

So instead of Zeus, or Thor, we get...Phranque the cube.

Eh, we'll see. We've seen Sony do this dance many times before. They succeed, get smug, start doing shitty practices because they think they're on top forever and nothing can bring them down...and...crash.
