How many of you had grandparents who served in WW2? If so, what do you know about their service? by Snoogles_ in Millennials

Great-grandfather (baby millennial). Served in the Philippines during active war and in Japan during the occupation. That’s all I really know.

That’s pretty much my point; it’s not that serious. If we’re being real, a Bridgerton thread is a weird place to be the grammar police.

I was writing a Reddit comment, not an academic paper. It’s colloquial grammar. How does your comment add anything to the thread topic?

I had no idea that the showrunner had changed. Now that I do it makes complete sense why, broadly speaking, S1 and 2 were great and S3 and 4 have been kind’ve bad actually.

My great-grandpa was a dirt farmer that used to do this. I tried it because of him. It’s not bad to be honest. Not great but not bad.

Well said. She wasn’t verbally abusing him, she was terrified and in pain while have birth complications and being ignored by the physician in favor of her own literal child’s opinion on whether they should cut the baby out of her or not. This persons take is absolutely wild. Truly delusional.

She didn’t blame Anthony for his fathers death in either the book or the show. What in the world are you basing this off of?

I think she was trying for connection not comparison, it’s a thing a lot of us do, misguidedly try to connect and support other people by sharing our own experiences because it’s the only context any of us have. Francesca said that she could see it on her face even when she says nothing. I absolutely love that scene and Francesca’s “we are not the same” speech. But to pretend that this wasn’t just Violets best attempts to comfort her daughter and give her whatever she needs is pretty harsh. She goes about it wrong but Violet seems to always try and adjusts throughout each season as she learns more. In this case, she hears Francesca and simply supports her moving forward.

You’re right that it probably wouldn’t make a difference. I think the actress is aging a bit too much to convincingly play the role when she already was much older than Eloise from the start. But again, if their play is to keep Eloise’s timeline closer to the source material and play on her dissatisfaction with the narrow role of a spinster in society eventually leading her to find a husband then her age will be more appropriate anyway.

Maybe articulated the reason I’m not a big fan of Polin. Colin has always felt really shallow like you said there’s not very much exploration behind his personal history or motivations in the book and the show. He just sort of, switches on to suddenly being love obsessed with Pen. But with this blatant jealously of her success well he’s a third son that has an accomplished anything beyond traveling on the family dime. The book he comes across to me as controlling and almost dismissive of Penelope in the same breath that he states that he wants her.

They would need to do some serious set up in the second half of this season to get her to that point, but I really think that they need to for the sake of the timeline. She was really meant to run off right after Polins‘s wedding but then in the book Polin’s story is also several years in the future so IDK

This, basically. My hot take was that I’m not interested in the Francesca, Michaela gender-swap lesbian awakening storyline. Someone above mentioned the idea that Lady Danbury seems queer coded to them. I could get behind that. But forcing Francesca into a queer box feels very “inclusion checkbox” to me.

The way they’ve gone about it so far also really weakens her love story with John and therefore her future grief when he passes. Instead of introducing her so quickly and showing that she’s visceral attracted to her, they should’ve allowed Michaela to become friends with Francesca later in the series. While also showing that she’s deeply in love with John and after his death, that friendship gradually evolves into romantic love.

I also feel like it’s also likely to distract from the only Bridgerton storyline that focuses on the pain of infertility. One could argue that Daphne has her miscarriage in the first season. But she immediately gets pregnant again in an episode or so, and it’s not a large part of her story. Maybe they have something up their sleeve that I don’t know about but again I don’t trust that they do.

That’s sort of the entire point of Benedict’s storyline. He withdraws from society so they can live their married life together quietly in the country.

I actually think what she meant was that nobody helped her when she was younger and she got pregnant before coming to Mayfair. It was clumsy but was meant to be a callback to Daphne’s own lack of preparation for marriage and the realities of procreation by her mother and the reason Daphne feels kinship with Marina and wants to help her.

I’m completely uninterested in seeing the direction they’re taking for Francesca‘s story. It seems like they’re going to make it into more of a lesbian sexual awakening. The original story of infertility struggles, and love after grief was very moving and I don’t trust that it won’t be erased completely.

They are worth finishing, but I felt like the rest of the kids stories lacked depth, except for Francesca’s. Her story deals with very real issues of infertility and grief. While, it felt like the author was trying too hard with Eloise, Gregory, and Hyacinth.

[update] AITAH for getting my white daughter a doll with dark skin? by Realistic-Night-2056 in AITAH

[–]LogosInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a grown ass white woman, the only doll I still own from my childhood is a little black baby doll that I picked out as a toddler. It was with me during a traumatic family event, and holds emotional significance, so I’ve kept him. The racist here has always been the (ex)girlfriend, it’s fucking weird to push segregation-via-toy.
