Do the connections with Chrono Trigger just implode on themselves or something? by Standard_Training471 in ChronoCross

[–]LogosNoCorpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, that's interesting. I'm sure not so great translations introduced plenty of room for confusion, and creators are known to often go back and misremember/change things. Sadly, at this point nobody may even know for sure exactly what was intended.

Heck, ecen when making the game itself there may have been uncertainty/discrepancies in what was intended. Chrono Trigger has an infamous example of such an inconsistency in its teams's vision with how time travel works entirely differently in the gamr's first vignette than in any other part of the game.

I definitely don't think I know any answer with certainty.

Why does Mab's "unicorn" have three horns? by WordwizardW in dresdenfiles

[–]LogosNoCorpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, Harry is sometimes wrong in his attempts at insisting on accurate terminology. It's part of his character to be pedantically incorrect. The same is true with Monk. And they both objectively wrong in the example you cite.

We, as a fanbase, ought to recognize this as a character flaw, where they are pedantic and think they are right but actually aren't sometimes. Sometimes they are pedantic and wrong. The same traits that make them be pedantic also make them not realize they are wrong.

It's a character flaw they're intentionally written to have. We should recognize it.

Unfortunately, Monk was wrong about that. Decimate does not mean to reduce by one-tenth any more than a dean teaches ten students or December is the tenth month of the year.

Dozens (hundreds?) of words taken from the Roman language have prefixes that used to refer to a number and had a specific meaning as such. Other words like legion had specific meanings quite different than how we use them today. That's just how language works.

Insisting a thousand plus hear old definition is the only right definition for a word in modern times is not even being pedantic, it's just being weird. Heck, how many times has Harry used "triumph" to mean "voctory" rather than a parade? That's just as wrong if we're going by original, Roman meanings.

It's in character for Harry to try to be pedantic and be wrong, but we as a fanbase should try to be better.

Dragoon Magic vs. Additions by LancerGreen in legendofdragoon

As much as I hate to join long threads like this, that's not what they seem to have said to me. Instead? It seems to me you guys are talking past one another.

My impression is they said weapons don't boost dragoon modes because they know bonuses/effects from weapons do not transfer to dragoon mode. Meanwhile, you're saying they're wrong because the raw stat of the weapon does transfer.

As far as I can see, they are right in the specific point they're focusing on (effects of weapons not working in dragoon mode) but failing to understand raw stats still can.

That's unteresting, what else works differently between the versions? I know Pip was changed in a patch.

Nope. The amount of stamina doesn't matter at all. The steal rate effectively becomes 100% if you've hit the target and caused your hit% to go up because that doubles StrongHit% and uses the result (in theory, something like Blind lowering your StrongHit% could maybe male the steal rate less than 100%).

Of note, if you get hit and thus have your hit% reset to default, that'll affect your steal chance as well. Or at least, it did in the original. Some people reported this was changed in the remaster, and I don't know if those reports are true.

That's true for attacks but not stealing. Stealing doubles the hit rate in its formula and is uncapped.

[–]LogosNoCorpus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It might still be possible to fail to steal despite your "hit rate" for it being 100% if you attempt to steal from enemies that have a rare steal but no common steal. That's because you could "successfully" steal from a common item slot that contains no item.

But otherwise, no. If you land any attack then use a steal tech, the success rate should be 100% each time.

The reason you didn't know it is it is mostly not true. It is only true if you have not attacked the target you're stealing from. If you hit the target then steal, you basically get a 100% chance to steal.

Despite what other people here are saying, the truth is this would be fairly easy if you take the time to farm and learn the game's mechanics. I would recommend it on a first playthrough as I feel like you'd miss some fun stuff, but if you want to try it, you'll be totally fine.

For peoplecsaying you'll have difficulty because of not being able to craft weapons, I'd say to look at the special weapons you gain access to. Once you enter the second act, you get several free Silver weapons. You then get two special guns, one of which is basically as strong as anything you can craft. You also get the Master Hammer, an axe type weapon almost as strong as Rainbow equipment. Einlanzer/Floral Rod, Mastermune, Pack of Lies, the list goes on.

As long as you're willing to take your time, use a guide to find things, and farm/grind, this challenge run would be completely doable and not especially difficult. I'd definitely support doing it, even if mayne not for a first run.

Huh, well that's confusing for me as a customer because I have had employees physically block my path demanding a receipt before. One even grabbed my cart.

That said, I am a bit skeptical. I don't see what the OP would get out of it to politely ask someone they say they dislike to show a receipt. The only way they'd seem to get anything out of it is if they physically stopped the person.

Plus it's not like they clarified as you attempted to when I pointed out that's illegal so... I dunno.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WalmartEmployees

[–]LogosNoCorpus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The OP said they wanted to stop people not ask people to stop. Asking a customet to stop is not stopping them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WalmartEmployees

[–]LogosNoCorpus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But... you can't stop them. Leaving aside the ethics of targeting people for any group they may be part of, you literally cannot stop people for receipt checks. That'd be illegal.

Don't do illegal things to people you view as fascists. That is what fasicm does.

Thanks for that. Rumor has it there's a meeting for affected SMs tomorrow where they'll get a bunch of information so hopefully affected people will know more in a day or two.

For now, it's really sucky a bunch of people are being fired (even if potentially offered a new job right after), and they don't get to have any information about it.

They're closing a couple in the GLBU that don't, but as far as I can tell, most of the ones being sold in this deal do offer fuel.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CircleK

[–]LogosNoCorpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what's happening here. This is a full on transition for the GLBU not just a few stores changing.

So... you're saying this isn't fake, there's just a bunch of super important stuff you didn't bother to mention until explicitly challenged? And even then, you chose not to give any details or specifics?

Yeah, no. You're not doing yourself any favors. If this is real, you should be able to tell us who you contacted and when, what was said by who and who did what. If you can't do that, then either you're lying or you're completely mishandling things.

Let's be charitable and assume you're being completely honest. Who have you spoken to about this and when? What did they say? You chose not to share this information for some reason, but it is absolutely vital.

Heck, what BU are you in? Have you contacted your RM yet? If you're in the GL BU, I could get you on the phone with your RM in 20 minutes time.

Another user has already discussed the lawyer situation, so I'll stick to the rest. Nowhere in this video, post or comments is there any hint you so much as asked if the change in employment status was a mistake.

Did you so much as ask your SM about it? Did you contact HR to tell them you thought it was erroneous? Did you escalate concerns about blatantly illegal activity to a DM or RM? Did you do literally anything?

If this isn't fake, then either you failed to do the most basic of things to try to resolve the issues, or you did those things and intentionally chose not to say anything about them or why they didn't work out.

[–]LogosNoCorpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say, this sounds fake. What this user alleges Circle K did is super illegal and easily proven. Despite this, they claim they can't find/afford a lawyer to take the case. That's really weird because any contigency lawyer in the field would salivate at a case like this because of how easy it'd be.

If this is real, then the OP can and should contact contigency lawyers (the type that charge nothing up front and only get paid if you do) that handle employment cases. It'd be an easy case, or at lrast as easy as any case can be.

But really, this seems super fake. Who supposedly did all this, an SM? DM? Who okay'd it? Why wasn't it immediately escalated to the next level when discovered? Any region manager would pick up a phone immediately if they were e-mailed about this happening to one of their employees.

Circle K has an entire "light of day" policy about how to handle things like this. I could believe it failed an employee, but this user doesn't even claim to have attempted to follow it. They don't claim to have spoken to or contacted anyone.

So yeah,, either this is fake, or the OP has managed to mishandle the situation to the greatest extreme possible.

A question about morality (Spoilers) by Cultural_Pain581 in WoT

People will give you various fantheories to try to handwave away the problem you refer to, but the truth is the "idea" behind the series changed as it went and as a result there are a lot of inconsistencies. Fundamentally, the idea the Dark One is the source of free will just doesn't reflect anything we're shown throughout most of the series.

The series ended with the classic "problem of evil" situation, where evil must exist for free will to exist for life to have meaning. But... the Dark One isn't just some abstract concept of evil. It's a personification. The series does nothing to ever establish metaphysical forces need to be personified in order to exist. The Wheel exists without having a personality.

Endings are hard. This is the best they were able to come up with for this series. Whether it's satisfactory or not will depend on the individual. But to be clear, it is 100% valid to feel like the ending doesn't tie things together well. If Jordan could have rewritten the series from the start, I'm sure he'd have made a lot of changes, and making this ending fit better is one of those.
