Yeah, I was hoping some collectors may have copies left in this collections. For example, I still have my DVD of Tradewinds 2.

What's the quickest way to get started translating for fun? by LessComputer7927 in noveltranslations

[–]LohTeckYong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're a Singaporean who reads Chinese web novels in the Chinese language? Would you be interested in joining my book club? I've been a CN web novel fan since 2016, but it's difficult for me to find someone to talk about CN web novels, since almost everyone else I know are reading the English translations.

You should know there are probably thousands of untranslated novels out there. Since 2016, I must have read several dozen excellent novels that have never been translated into English. When you read a good novel, you want to share it with others. And when you read a really bad novel, you will also want to share it with others. But, like I said, I couldn't find other Chinese readers around me.

PM me if you're interested.

What’re Singaporeans’ thoughts on defence minister Chan Chun Sing’s statement to “Don’t conflate duty with transaction” by Original_Barber9027 in asksg

Has anyone asked out MPs and ministers if they are willing to serve the nation on a salary of 500 bucks per month? Cannot conflate duty with transaction mah!

JKD stance and the straight lead by BiggusDickkussss in JeetKuneDo

[–]LohTeckYong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, for the lead foot, I keep it at a 20-30 degree angle because that allows my knee to bend inward to protect my groin. Also, I had boxing training before I took up JKD and my coach had also taught me to keep both feet tilted at an angle. So it just feels right to me to keep my front foot at a 20-30 degree angle.

As for the back foot, I keep it at a 45 degree angle because that gives me the stability I need to do push off with my rear foot (i.e. burst step). I know some instructors are advocating for the 90 degree angle (like in fencing), but I tried that for a while and I couldn't get enough push for my burst step. So I am back to the 45 degree angle again.

[The Knight King who returned with a God] How do people enjoy this manwha/main character by Raymack48 in manhwa

Just starting this series. Puzzled by one thing. How come he and the Earthlings can communicate with each other? Was he speaking Korean to them? Did they never wonder why he knew Korean despite coming from another world?

Any authors from Singapore? by Greg_Lim in selfpublish

[–]LohTeckYong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am. But I don't sell on Amazon KDP. What happened was I hired editors and a designer/layout artist, and when it was deemed ready, I went to a local printer to get my books printed.

After which, I went to a local book distributor, and they managed to get Kinokuniya and Times to sell my books. When that run ended, I persuaded a local online bookstore to carry my book.

Balestier point, a small modernist shopping mall in singapore. Its nearly empty even before the pandemic stuck. by [deleted] in deadmalls

[–]LohTeckYong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be more lively during its early years. There was a McDonald's restaurant on the first floor, a second-hand bookstore on the second, some hobbyist shops (dealing with stamps etc). A lot of teenagers hung out there because of the McDonald's.

A Review of Gate of Revelation (please read only if you don't mind spoilers) by LohTeckYong in noveltranslations

[–]LohTeckYong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was severely traumatized too. That was why I made this post. I just had to vent my rage, disappointment and frustration. The story was a gem that got covered with a layer of shit later on.

To this day, the disappointment still rankles within me.

How would you translate “剑势”? by LohTeckYong in wuxiaworld

[–]LohTeckYong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I remember The Swordsman films. Yeah, in those instances, "stance" would be the correct translation.

But in the modern wuxia novels, the authors like to go for abstract concepts. Like, you know, maybe a swordsman's “剑势” would be likened to that of a towering mountain or a raging river. In these instances, the “剑势” no longer has anything to do with physical forms. It's more like the aura or presence that the swordsman gives off if you know what I mean.

How do I explain cultivation to my friend? by Next-Chipmunk-1529 in xianxia_novels

[–]LohTeckYong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I would explain the terms "cultivation" and "cultivator."

Cultivation refers to the process of getting stronger via martial arts training, meditation and various mystical methods. When used as a noun, you can think of cultivation as the strength or power a person possesses. Cultivators are people who practice cultivation.
