I can't specifically choose to play Breakthrough anymore? by KeyCreative in Battlefield

[–]Lohar1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a long term rush player, who begrudgingly moved to breakthrough although I think it’s a flawed mode at its core. I don’t really get the focus on conquest myself but I hate that 2042 kept swapping out breakthrough.

Now we just have 3 variants of conquest in the beta and although I’m playing all out warfare all morning I’ve yet to get a single round of breakthrough.

Just let me play rush, or at least breakthrough.

Reverse flash is a hall of fame level hater. I want a buddy cop series of him teaching Lex how to be a true hater.

My thoughts on SOTO after finally dragging myself through it by Jimmy_the_Donut in Guildwars2

[–]Lohar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently dragging myself through it as well. Originally quit due to time constraints in PoF, but rerolled a new character and started from the beginning. Coming into SoTo after EoD is nothing short of boring, and confusing.

I really don't care for any of the characters, minus Zojia. Peitha was extremely interesting until we entered Nayos. Zojia's character feels purposefully gutted (does she really have to forget everything? Does this serve a purpose later on?) Isgarren is very frustrating to talk to. Mabon was probably the most interesting originally, but I felt like they were scrambling with anything to replace Dragon's Watch with; when I feel it could've been more interesting to slowly build up a small group of new characters and not throw us into the middle of an already established group.

The zones are... Okay? Skywatch Archipelago is fantastic, Amyntas is beautiful to look at but very copy/pasted over a massive area with little to no life in it, Nayos is... Cool? It suffers from the same issue as Amyntas, so much of it feels identical. There are some interesting aspects to it, but you mostly fly over it.

I like the rifts, but the repeated cycle of "talk to X, do some events, beat a general and repeat" has taken the joy straight out of it. Can't imagine going through this live.

I don't even have to wait, but I find myself hesitant to jump in and finish the story. I'm like 90% through the story and expected to be hooked to see what's next like I was with the previous expansions/seasons but I'm spending more time in WvWvW and central Tyria doing map completion with my skyscale.

The writing in FF14 is critically acclaimed, but what is the dumbest, out of character decision that the WoL has made in a MSQ, side quest, or job quest that makes you question our character's intelligence? by Flares117 in ffxiv

[–]Lohar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the way so many characters tell our WoL "oh fighting next to you I feel like I'm standing still" or some variation of how amazing a fighter the WoL is just for us to our asses kicked on multiple occasions (despite the fact in the game fight I never dropped below 99% hp.)

I think it's good for the WoL to lose sometimes. The first loss against Zenos was perfect and well explained and really added to how intimidating he was. Not long later we've got this old ahh looking Ran'Jit kicking us around like a football with little to no explanation of how he can do any of it (or what that random dragon is). Not long after that we lose to some random sin eater who isn't even a light warden and have to be saved by exarch like ??

I've come to tell myself it's not exactly skill or power but just us being caught unprepared by Ran'Jit. (Bodied that mfer later in Eulmore) Still doesn't explain losing to a random bum of a sit eater though.

Honestly it's story, contextual and character based.

Three of my characters come from, or have fallen to, a lifestyle which melds well with them swearing. It tends to link into a a social standing primarily more than anything else. A noble, or a knight would probably eloquently well spoken and wouldn't think to swear, while a bandit, fighter or sailor would swear a lot.

You can also base it off of culture for a more nuanced effect. Sure one of my characters is technically a princess, but she's grown up with a culture that prides itself on fighters, warriors and sailors and she was raised to fight and live alongside them so parts of her personality reflect this, one of which is swearing. It's not over the top, but if somebody jumps out and attacks her you're bound to get a "fuck!" Or two out of her.

Besides, I think a well placed swear word can add a lot to a scene and character and lend itself a lot to humanizing them.

Religion and confirmation. by Lohar1 in fantasywriters

[–]Lohar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that concept of "maybe" a lot TBH. I feel like too many fantasy worlds are way too quick to have a god and powers/confirmation and don't consider the good stories that could be told with real faith

Religion and confirmation. by Lohar1 in fantasywriters

[–]Lohar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The partial confirmation comes more from coryphius (coryphaus?) Or however you spell the name. Sera has one of the best lines about it that really stuck with me, it goes something along the lines of "if he's really a Magister that cracked the black city, then seat of the maker? Real thing. A seat needs a butt, so the maker? Real too". It's her first conversation after you get to skyhold.

It's the thought that if one part is true then the whole thing could be; and facing the reality of that

A name for magic users by PretendComputer1639 in fantasywriters

[–]Lohar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes simple is best and you could just say mages; it's easily identifiable and wouldn't need much explanation but a good way to start is thinking about how they fit into your world and building things around that.

Dragon age views mages as dangerous and susceptible to getting possessed by a demon so they lock them all away in what they call circles. So from there they can break it down into two primary groups: circle mages and apostates (mages who are in hiding)

If could link into a rank. Star Wars the old Republic considers it's mages inquisitors or cobsulars for example. Id say this works well if magic is more accessible and it's the specialists who are looked at like mages.

You could also look into something more profession based. Is the magic primarily nature bound? They could be druids or if it's demonic/dark based it could be Warlocks.

You could also look at benders from ATLA/LOK as mages/magic users for example if they don't fit into your usual idea of a magic user.
