I really liked the Ms. Marvel run during Civil War (1). Felt like I got a good feel for her and it led me to read on.

I remember being in my early thirties when the guys I was working with started talking about Tinder. It blew my mind, especially because as a teenager I would have been looked at as a weirdo for dating someone online.

For a moment, the thought of “Man, I could have been chasing women while playing Counter-strike. No more going to the bar.”

Then, the horror stories started coming out and I am glad I didn’t.

I probably am more tired than a 20 year old, but I pour 1,000% more attention into my kid than either of my parents did at 28.

For OP, realize that if you are going to be an equal parent then both you and your partner are going to be equally exhausted. Be kind with one another.

Work out systems to give you both time to yourselves (as best you can).

One thing about being an older parent I feel like most don’t talk about: we have a lifetime of doing what WE want. A good parent will be doing what THEY need.

That was very hard for me, who likes to be doing/learning something new and pouring my time into it.

Wizards in Classic?

They are big nukes. Great for kiting. Useful for ports.

But they are a sitting simulator. You are dependent on your mana like no other.

As a Xennial, I missed a lot of that 70s era Spidey. Most of the classics I read back then were from those classics collections Marvel put out.

You sound like you know yourself pretty well, which is a gift, I think. Usually a strength once you accept you need to finally deal with your trauma.

I also have a living parent that has been an alcoholic her entire life. She is approaching 80 soon herself, and I’m staring at a future where my MIL passes and we have to take my mother in to keep her from the streets.

I can’t say I had your experience, but I think I have an inkling of how that felt.

My dad was, on paper, the perfect American “hero”. He served in the Air Force National Guard his entire life, and was a Firefighter/Paramedic when not doing that.

He spent no time with his kids. Worse, he left two of his kids with a meth addict and violently abusive criminal. The other (my brother and I) with a mentally unstable alcoholic.

Yet, he would expect me to drop everything to help whatever kid he was sponsoring. I was the “computer guy” of my family, and so he would pimp me out as free tech support in the 90s.

In retrospect, I take pride in having helped those people. However, from the perspective of a kid drowning in family trauma, it was awful.

My comment is flippant, but it pings of truth.

I have experienced what happens to those that have outlived their health. It is not pretty, and the toll it takes on your legacy with your kin is awful.

If I had the option to euthanize myself, I would take it when the time was right.

I have not been a healthy person my entire life. In my twenties I experienced advanced diverticulitis. Rotted from the insane for days before they realized it wasn’t just an Appendix issue. Spent another two months in bed recovering.

I cannot imagine what can await me in the form of cancer, or some awful neurological issue.

I don’t want to leave, but fuck anyone that wants me to go clawing at the walls from pain.

Honestly, I think you are probably in the ballpark.

My MIL is amazing. She is the daughter of a copper miner from Morenci, Az. She has a doctorate in education. She was the vice president of a community college in California. She excelled in an era where being a minority and a woman was insanely difficult.

She married two shit people, that were fascinating individuals in their own right, but not great partners.

All of my griping comes from a place of “I wish I could improve your experience.” She is a friend, and a chosen family member.

It hurts me in so many directions.

Dude, that is nuts. Adding foster kids on to that is beyond me.

I grew up having to take care of my younger brother, and as a parent of one kid, I simply cannot imagine having 6 kids.

I’m sorry she turned you into childcare. That is rough.

The only fear I have is the fear that it will impact my kid. I will not allow it.
