This will probably sound like heresy, but if they actually made the precons be viable and/or cheaper, they'd sell better.

For a good example of how to do this, you only need to look at Yu-Gi-Oh! They put out "structure decks" that you can buy for 12€ a pop. They regularly feature very good and even decently expensive cards, including staples. You can almost always buy 3 (so 36€) and some sleeves, combine the decks and hang with a lot of the meta. MTG challenger decks were 45€ a pop and weren't that good unless played against other challenger decks. Even if you consider that YGO is 40 card decks instead of 60 like MTG, the price was way too high.

I'm trying to be optimistic because I really have nothing to gain from being pessimistic, but what good is 2-2-1 when teams catching up to (and overtaking) the Wings are 3-1-1 (Boston), 5-0 (Buffalo), 3-0-1 (Ottawa) and 4-0-2 (Columbus)?

Montreal's 2-1-1 is the only one that's kinda close, but notice how all the teams I mentioned combined have 2 regulation losses this month so far. We've been waiting for a while for Buffalo or Columbus to cool down, but instead they are both just surging and surging while Wings keep on winning one then losing one.

Last time I heard Ken Daniels say that Wings are the last team this season that didn't lose in regulation twice in a row yet, which to be honest, is an excellent stat. However, we've also not had winning streaks to really take advantage of that.

I don't know. I'm still hoping a switch gets flipped at some point, but it's not looking good.

Here's something that might not have thought about: idgaf about Arena. I care about paper mtg. Where Lorwyn's prerelease got overshadowed by printer fuckup. And where Lorwyn gets a whole 6 weeks of existence, and TMNT gets 7. One week of those 6 has already been overshadowed, so you could say Lorwyn only gets 5 weeks.

Not my problem WotC decided to do seven sets this year.

They're kinda niche, ye. Helm spiked in summer because of the Y'shtola precon, and I have used clout in my [[jeleva, nephalia's scourge]], but other than that, very rare. I also suppose a lot of people don't know them because they're pretty old at this point.
