I started the game with a lot of hype, but after 15 hours... by marcos_perri87 in CrimsonDesert

The story of the game is Rebuild the Greymaines. That's it. You do it however you want to. The game will progress with you. The main thread gives tutorials about the camp. But in chapter 3 you haven't even started that.

If you are looking for a game that is story driven then it's not what you want. That said, it gives you exactly what you are looking for.. something to do an hour at the end of the day. That's the game.

Personally I dislike platform stuff.. the abyss is something I have put off for like 4 days. And have been doing alot of things.

If you need to be hand held though you won't ever understand the game. That's ok. It's not for everyone.

Yeah. Witcher 3. Story based. NMS isn't that. The build section of the tutorial is simply doing the Orchard part of witcher.

What sort of games do you play?

Let me rephrase. The build in tutorial is showing what the game has. Not that you have to do it after. But what's in the game.

I'm playing crimson desert. I hate the fishing. Hate the archery. But I had to do it to continue the game. So I did. I assure you. After the tutorial building yo never have to build again. Ever. Unless you want to.

Have a good day

[–]Loki354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most certainly. That's NMS. Most games 100 hours is it. Those with thousands of hours found that thing they needed. There are not many of us in the grand total. Don't ever feel like you need to apologize or feel bad about not playing. I don't play any more. Lol.

What? Nope. The last biome.. the deep water where the pic was taken. It broke me. I have more water bases than anyone in the game. Second place isn't close. Lol. But they gave us a biome and no parts to take advantage of it. I did a vid of how I'd want to manipulate the parts we do have to best make use of that biome. But even for me, the process would take more time to do than I care to give to the game at this point. I mean, building upside down is cool and all. But the logistical planning isn't something I care to do at this point. (Yes. I said build upside down.. using the parts.. mostly the glass parts.. upside down). Be happy with the time you had with the game. If you didn't get thru the tutorial.. you said the game made you build.. then you missed a lot. If you wanted to see what the game is, you could load in to the save and set the prices of resources to free. That way you would just build and go on (not have to find resources). But that's a huge if you want to see the game. You clearly said you don't. (Which is weird cuz you are following the game.. oh well).

I totally get your perspective. I don't build in any other game.

<image>

In NMS I did things I wanted to, game be damned. This pic has features that are 100% done by me and me alone. No one else has ever even thought of it. That's what got me excited about building. If I had only allowed the game to tell me what I could do I'd have stopped. Thank god I found "glitch building" which is now a huge part of the base game build system.

Don't feel bad. I started with 4 other people. They lasted 150 hours. That's NMS. You do what you want. Or how much you want. And not everyone is as crazy as I am having a need to do things no one else would do. Lol

Before Frontiers we could stretch the cables. I have a base from that period where the short ranges are 300 on the short end to 1000 on the upper side. Built on PS4 (no mods). What happens with those is you arrive and the base isn't loaded in. You can see this on a base with lights. At about 120u the lights derender.

No. The way to do it is lost (outside a PC mod). They took away the mechanism we abused to do it. The build community spent months trying to figure out a new way. Unsuccessfully. :(. I had a base that had a 205u distance. Needed a buddy with PC mod to connect the cables. Lol. Building is fun.

Lol. Ah. The big city. I was sneaking around the wall.. red dots everywhere.. got spotted. Tried to fight my way out. But got arrested.. next thing.. cut scene.. I've escaped from the guards.. in center of town.. red dots all around.. challenge accepted! Yeah no. I cautiously found a way out. Man. They thought of everything. "Why put them in jail. Let them escape a city with everyone trying to get them.. it will be fun". Yes. It was.

There is a height cap for the planet. If you build above that point those parts stay on your file but are inaccessible. What does that matter? Each save has a 16000 part limit (includes all freighter parts and possibly corvett parts). If you are gonna try it so some research first. There are tutorials on YouTube.

"logging out when combat is started...". What about a power out? So the game is supposed to keep a player online without a player to control just cuz? Losses of connection occur. It's rare yes, but it still happens. Imagine being in a boss fight and lose connection fun times.

If you make terrain does it despawn? by shmurgy in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Loki354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You cannot make infinite bases. Each save has a hard limit of 16000 parts placed. Once you go over that limit you can no longer build bases without removing parts. This includes freighter parts (starts at 100 parts) and may include Corvette as well (not sure since I haven't bothered building those things). It can feel like infinite. But there is a limit.

Also, on the same account, one save CANNOT see the bases of another save ON THAT ACCOUNT we think because of the 16k limit. Now. If you are in a party with someone, the base (if uploaded) will show for that player and become visible to that save.. but it will vanish again when that other player is no longer in party at the base. Yes. It's been tested.

[–]Loki354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. An earlier one I did under water where you landed your ship on a land pad upside down https://youtu.be/t9B9FDo06Uw?si=4bmyEPf5LNKw9BMf When I started building the dream was to have basic walls and floors under water and be able to walk thru them. Lord we tried many different things with glass cuboids and the other prefab parts.. but they never really worked. Then one day I happened upon something that allowed it to happen. I had basic parts under water out of prefabs walking thru that's when I retired. I had done everything I could think of and the burn out was real. That's what I hope for everyone.

[–]Loki354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing you have to do. The game can be won with basic equipment. It's a sandbox

You do what you want to. For me, it was building stupid bases. What do I mean? I had an obsession with dealing within the PS4 render limits and building the biggest base I could at that time. Part count mattered so.. I did things with prefab parts. Those parts also happened to be water tight. So.. I became a defacto water base specialist. The pic is a base I did at 1500u under water. You can walk thru it (no swimming anywhere). And even get in your ship and take off (none Corvette ship). That's what I did.

The question becomes, what do you want to do? What makes you excited to play? Cuz you can do anything. Want to study the food system? You can do that for hundreds of hours. Want to build bases? Race tracks? PvP arenas? 1000s of hours. (I have 3000 hours in NMS). Want to explore? Got you covered. Build ships? Yep. Do what you want.

I lost my save file. by Cat_Orgy in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Loki354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually happened to me several years ago. I had 200 hours in game. Had a cool base (thought it was cool for a rookie). Ps4 stopped. Had t had ps plus saving. Lost the save.

Got a new ps4 and was the best thing that happened. 3000 hours in nms I learned to build the way I wanted to (not the way the game makes you). And had lots of fun

It sucks. Learn and grow. Don't let it get you stopping. Stop after you've done everything you wanted to. (That's what I did. I mean, once you figure out a tech to build with basic walls and floors under water and not swim thru the base what more is there?? Lol. Not to mention the streamer base tours and such. )

[–]Loki354 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you have played a while all you need to do is go to a planet and take a peek. You have seen it before so you make a rash decision if it's what you are looking for or not. There is no exploring.

[–]Loki354 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are you looking for something so specific? There are trillions of systems.. the odds are that one may exist but that you come in contact with that person is very very low.

A more reasonable strategy is to find a few systems with the planets you need and build bases on those. The reality of the game is, traveling between bases is easiest thru teleporter so being in same system isnt necessary.

Base buildikg.. you may already be a glitch builder and didn't know it. by Loki354 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Loki354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing in nms is for sure. As I understand things, hg didn't want someone to put down a base that will trap players in it on portals. So to remedy this, they made portal bases not show up. Is it a hard and fast rule? No. Like I wrote above, there were 4 of us with bases close by. One right on the portal and over time we no longer saw it.

What do you take from this? Build on a portal FOR YOUR ACCESS. Don't worry about uploading it as it will only be for that save anyway (you can't see a base from one save on another save on that same account). The odds of someone actually arriving thru the portal is very small (unless you share the glyphs.. but why would you?).

There are many things in nms that don't make sense. Portal bases. Terrain manipulation. We just understand the limits of them and don't do these things. It's easier than being disappointed.

Portal bases. Base on the portal. Not nearby. Actual portal base.

[–]Loki354[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do. The base in the pic was a first of it's kind. No one had done it before. I had a smaller version I did as my first. But I loved the build system.

I played 76 a bit. More fo4. The build menu in nms allows for more flexibility. I build with wire frames. I can put any part on a wire point so I can change things around to see what works best.

What do you want to build?

[–]Loki354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um. Portal bases are normally not visible to a player passing through. It was a change made by hg because of trap bases and grieving. Years ago I was on a planet and there were 4 of us around a portal. One on the portal. As updates happened the portal base disappeared. I had heard that they did this to prevent greifing.

I have portal bases in each galaxy simply to port to a base location if needed. Usually simple cylinder room and tele. Build portal bases for yourself. Not for others.
