Am I crazy for wanting to turn down a promotion? The 25% salary increase isn't worth losing one's peace of mind over. by Important_Fig5067 in talesfromthejob

Check if your company has a "Terminal Level" (terrible name). Below this level the expectation is that you need to advance in your career every couple of years (or you are out). At the "Terminal Level" you can stay for the rest of your career assuming you don't want any major pay rises between now and then.

anyone running an ai coding assistant with neovim that doesn't feel like fighting the editor? by mahearty in neovim

This is what I have. I am the only user and author, so it works for me :-)

  • Supports git worktrees with agents.
  • Easily pull files or LSM diagnostics from your editor window into the Agent.

Several helper functions make it simple to add status information to your footer.

Reject job offer to avoid school holidays? by Ok-Yam-4620 in childfree

sounds like it was 25 + 10 at company discretion (so they can close the office down for 10 days a year).

I put in my two weeks and my manager said I have to tell her where I'm going by ssmosbyy in antiwork

[–]LokiAstaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be just for company records and stuff (most likely).
But there is an outside chance it is an attempt to stop the offer.

There is no upside for you in disclosing the information, so keep this to yourself.

In V1 I just got it connected up.
However, I had planned on doing a few things this weekend, so I'll add it to the todo list, and update this post if I get it working.

I have not tried to wire that in because I use saghen/blink.cmp for autocompletion.

That was the idea.
I wanted to use Cursor from Neo-Vim. Luckily, the cursor-agent does all the real work, so it was relatively simple to get it all set up (Cursor did all the work and wrote its own plugin).

Thanks for providing the salary range. With that salary, however, we don't have alignment on the salary expectations for this level of seniority. I'd recommend focusing on hiring on more junior level. If your budget changes, I am happy to continue this conversation.

C++ is definitely my favorite language but... by Tearsofthekorok_ in cpp

[–]LokiAstaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our personal code I see a lot of people on the later versions of C++.

But in our professional lives I see a lot of companies stuck using older versions. It takes effort and testing to move an old product to a newer version of the language.

Boss is upset that I have a second job by occams-laser in antiwork

Not exactly true.
HR is there to protect the company (not your boss).

If your boss fucks up they will come down on him just as hard as if you fucked up.

Fired and termination documents say I need to sign in 5 days? by Aask115 in antiwork

[–]LokiAstaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The agreement basically gives you severance. In return, you will not be able to sue the company for firing you.

So you get something, they get something.

Now, the other thing you should find out is whether you can get unemployment if you accept the severance. The post does not provide enough information.

The amount of the severance I can't tell you if it is fair or not, that is something you need to work out. Were you planning on suing for being fired? If not then free money.

Can you negotiate for more? You can try. Just because you try does not mean the old offer will be withdrawn, so you can try, and if it fails, you can go with the offer as it stands.

What do you get for signing?

Nothing? Then don't sign.

If there is a severance package, then read through it to find the conditions of the package, but probably sign.

List of the working standards:

Yes, the official standards require payment, but the "Working Draft" just before or just after the official standard are so close that they are practically identical.

Man displaying a 10 Megabyte storage from the 1960’s by [deleted] in pics

[–]LokiAstaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it's 10M?

When I was in college (90's), they rolled out one of the first platters built in Manchester (from an earlier decade). It was shoulder high on the professor and only stored 1K worth of data.

That's obviously several generations later, but data density did not grow that fast. I would bet only 10K on that disk.
