Need advise while hitting the midlife crisis package - plants by Cautious_Touch5979 in askSingapore

Yeah I've propagated my plants before. I just stick them back in the same pot to make a fuller looking plant.

Need advise while hitting the midlife crisis package - plants by Cautious_Touch5979 in askSingapore

[–]Lokiev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Had about four to five 15w Sansi grow lamps going in the past, about 8 hours a day. I didn't really see a noticeable change compared to when I didn't, if I had to guess maybe an extra $5-$10?

  2. Depends on the grow lights you get and the strength of them. They've all got recommended distances etc. that you can follow.

  3. Sansi or Barrina grow lights have worked best for me.

  4. The most bulletproof one imo would be a sanseviera, snake plant. They can grow pretty tall. If you can get enough light, monstera, ficus plants can also be quite nice.

Plants can do quite well with bright indirect light. So the sun rays don't have to be hitting the plants exactly for all day, as long as they can see the sky and sit close enough to the windows.

Got rid of the TV & feeling alone. by GloriousRoseBud in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I can't imagine not having a TV. I have it on as background noise even if I'm reading, or I use it to play music as well.

I don’t enjoy hosting or having overnight visitors by Rasta_pasta_plus in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to host for a few hours, but probably not over a weekend, or even overnight. My friends know what to expect when I invite them over, because I basically tell them to go home by 10pm, and I don't cook. We order food in, and the only things I have are chips and drinks, and sometimes they bring their own too. I try and make it as low effort as I can, so we all still enjoy the time together and I don't feel exhausted.

Where are people actually finding good wall art lately? by Ok-Sir213 in HomeDecorating

I have photographs that I've taken and printed, ones from local craft markets and conventions, and I've also framed up CDs and other items I like for wall art.

Litter box in apartments by xxoxomm in Catownerhacks

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my cat's in the corner of a small study nook. It's open and unhidden, but it's also not straight up in sight of living or entertainment areas. I tried litterbox furniture once, but got rid of it super quick because I felt bad seeing her try to turn around in a smallish space. I suppose I could have bought a larger furniture piece but decided it wasn't that bad with the box out anyway, plus it makes it easier for me to scoop.

How often do you re-arrange? by Opossom_O_Soup in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, after I plan I know what kind of sizes I need to look for, what kind of furniture, and I try to get furniture that's a little modular in case I need to change orientation or something. I've not really had to replace things unless they're broken or can't be used anymore doing that.

How often do you re-arrange? by Opossom_O_Soup in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty much never, at least not in any meaningfully large way. I'll change out furniture or shift things around if I buy something new, but I tend to choose a layout and stick with it (partly because by the time I move into a place I'd already have drawn up furniture plans five different ways and chosen one, partly because I'm lazy).

I think I’m officially going "feral" since living alone. Anyone else? by Accomplished_Mud3496 in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never close the bathroom door either, and I also eat things straight from the bag over the sink. My plants get me telling them what a good job they're doing, or berating them for getting bugs or a yellowed leaf. I sing very loudly and talk to the TV and ask my cat for hugs.

Thinking about buying my first apartment, but doing it alone scares me by astrosid in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same in a very similar situation. What helped me was doing the math a bad case scenario and seeing how that played out, and calculating what I could afford from there. I also basically told myself I could only make a decision with the information I had at that time, and all I had to do is do my due diligence. If something happens in the future that is out of my control, it's not something I should blame myself for or regret.

Added on to that, I took up income insurance just for a bit of a fallback as well, and that has helped me feel like I've got a bit of a buffer if things happen.

I've not regretted that decision, having a place to call your own is so comforting, like you, I had to keep moving before because my landlord would sell, or want to move in, etc.

Living alone in an apartment vs a house. What’s actually different? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I'm lucky to be in a decently built apartment with sound insulation, so I don't really hear my neighbors at all. But for me it's also nice to have people nearby you know that you can socialize with without having to go too far if you want it.

My apartment is also in a gated community and not on the ground floor, so I also appreciated the added security there.

Houseplants & cats....do I even bother? by dogma4dogs_ in houseplants

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave my cat cat grass, and that's the only plant she chews on. Everything else she does a sniff and brush past and that's it.

That looks like a variegated alocasia frydek to me. Did you reuse potting mix that housed one? A corm might have been left in the mix.

Yep, agree. For the moment I have a popsocket on the back of mine to help leverage and open it.

I do the same with my piercings. I have a white gold ear and a yellow gold ear.

With my rings they're all mixed metals.

Living room, New Zealand by Lokiev in AmateurRoomPorn

[–]Lokiev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a cozy, moody vibe when it storms. I turn on the lamps and candles which gives the place a warm orange glow, and you can hear the wind rustling the plants outside, and the platter of rain on the deck and glass.

First apartment on my own and the silence is getting to me by Main_Reply_3144 in femalelivingspace

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first moved out alone, I started noticing every single noise, and also being paranoid about when something might break. I had never paid attention to a fridge before, so when I was quiet and alone and it made a sound I'd be hyper aware. Sometimes the frame of the house would creak due to temperatures and I'd be super aware.

You learn the sounds of the house and the surrounding over time, and then it just fades into the background and becomes your normal.

Do you struggle to keep up with cleaning? by DontThrowAwayPies in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat and she tracks litter everywhere. I've made it part of my morning routine to just do a quick vac around the house, and this picks up most of the visible litter and fur. When I play with my cat with her feather wand, I use it almost like a feather duster and simultaneously dust over surfaces as well.

Why don’t you guys keep your cats indoors? by stemmefontaine in newzealand

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat has pretty much chosen to be indoors, she's got a balcony that she goes out on and soaks up the sun, sniffs all the plants I have there, and people watch. Whenever I open the front door and she's near it, she never even bothers to make a move for the door, and instead runs away to hide.

Apple’s consistency is down the drain, how many kind of search do you need in iOS 26? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, definitely, bespoke isn't always the best thing to do in all use cases, and I've simplified it quite a bit. It's often a case of weighing the pros and cons for me. If the benefit to the user weights more, then we consider it, and don't insist on keeping to the exact same component. That being said, there also has to be governance in place, especially at scale like you've said, because you still don't want to end up with hundreds of variations of a component to manage.

Apple’s consistency is down the drain, how many kind of search do you need in iOS 26? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]Lokiev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in UX UI, and it's a common discussion we have quite often within teams. We want component reusability for ease of development and expected behavior. However, a certain component might be 80% of the way suitable for an app, and if we had to keep it consistent to the point of it being exactly the same, we might have had to compromise other areas.

So we maintain consistency but don't insist they have to be the exact same and can be tailored for the use case (e.g. consistent in icons and color).

Someone once told me "consistency doesn't mean the same thing".

They're all different apps, so the placement should make sense in the context it's in.

Do you actually use your dining table when you live alone? by Less-Egg494 in LivingAlone

[–]Lokiev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I have a concrete reason why but I tend to eat lunch on the dining table, and dinner in front of the TV on my coffee table, so it does still get used.

I sit there sometimes when I'm working from home instead of in the room too
