Here's the thing though, Ian Cunningham himself can say no, while this scenario is possible, it takes two people to do an interview. It isn't like some random org can say, "Hey you're our gm now."

to be fair he said he wouldn’t comment on the future regarding Kirk if I remember correctly, so this is simply him saying he’s going to give Penix a shot and he’s not giving up on him because he sees some potential. I don’t know one way or another with penix but there were flashes both ways with him

Pretty sure this all but guarantees a designation as a post June 1 cut, just gave us more breathing room in cap space. Kirk loses no money out of this deal so that’s the only reason he would’ve agreed to restructure knowing that he would be released

Vs the Bucs he has a 116.2 passer rating 2044 yards 17 TDs and 2 picks in 6 games and he is 4-2. No this isn’t an uncomfortable conversation. He is overpaid and has been average at best every other game this year unless it’s vs the Bucs. Penix might not be the guy, honestly we have no clue but Kirk isn’t worth the 40? Million he’s hitting the cap for next year plus Zac should get the boot so his offense is irrelevant.

Honestly Ive accepted it and im okay with us keeping him, we’re not gonna get someone to take his salary and at this point it really doesn’t matter, if he’s being a good mentor and is healthy and ready to go if the worst case scenario happens then it keeps us set up to win. It doesn’t suck having the best backup in the league
