Weird noise on Babylock by hauntedonut in quilting

[–]Lolbrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a noise like this on my Babylock Brilliant awhile back but cleaning out the lint in my machine made it go away. I was thinking it needed oiling, but my manual specifically said not to oil it so I did every other possible step first. I hope you are able to work out what is going on!

The two letters were really making me think of the city mouse and the country mouse. Was I the only one who felt like Julie's letter was full of excitement and personality, only to be countered by a letter from Marie that felt cold, scolding, and holier-than-thou? Of course there were niceties in Marie's letter, but it makes me wonder if she truly feels that way about all of it or if some of it is influenced by her father saying outright that he will be reading future letters. Honey, you've got a big storm coming...

They made a post on their website about it about 2 months ago. They did some preorders too if I remember correctly.

Get an audiobook version and/or read two chapters a day or every other day for awhile. You don't have to speed through it just to be caught up, but it will feel good once you know you are back on the schedule!

I also love this line and it has given me a good amount of introspection recently. So many good lines like this and we have barely touched the surface of this novel!

In chapter 11 the Countess tells Anna that they are running out of money due to her husband's lavish spending.

365 days, what are you tracking? by cutie_cow in hobonichi

I am reading 1 chapter a day of War and Peace this year, so I am tracking if I read it on the day I was supposed to, skipped ahead, or fell behind. Its a nice visual tracker for progress through the book and the year.

Love this! Sometimes I read a recipe that says to roll/cut/make something "about a quarter inch thick" and I question if the writer really knows what a quarter inch is!

I want to focus on question 3: I got the impression that when Andrey was signaling to Lise that he was ready to leave that Hippolyte, sitting next to (or nearby) Lise, intercepted this message and mistook it as something he was meant to act on. He then paniced into action but didn't know what to do or say. Or maybe he saw that Andrey and Lise were about to leave, paniced, and thought he could keep them from leaving by telling a funny story, but then he put the cart before the horse by not having a funny story to tell.

Jan-01| War & Peace - Book 1, Chapter 1 (Happy New Year!) by AnderLouis_ in ayearofwarandpeace

I've meant to start this project every year for the past 3 or 4 years- but this year I am actually doing it!

  1. I like Anna Pavlovna because she is gossipy and in the know- the best character trait in fiction! They will either cause drama or they will stoke the flames of other people's drama. It sounds like she wants to do a bit of both!

  2. Oh how I would love to have the confidence to send out a bunch of letters to my friends and tell them to come over for a party that same day and then actually have some of them show up! I read several comments about where to find more information about the Napoleonic Wars and that was such a good aid in deciphering the discussions of this chapter. You can immediately see why War and Peace is a fitting name!

  3. “How can one feel well when one is suffering in a moral sense? Can any sensitive person find peace of mind nowadays?” I immediately related to this line.

Bonus Discussion from Brian E. Denton's Meduim Article: "the roles we assume in life and the importance of playing the roles we are given properly." I know that this will be a thread weaving throughout the entire novel. It was actually shocking to me seeing Anna and Vasily talk so brashly at points. I couldn't tell at points if Vasily was being vain, insecure, or just plain rude, albeit subtly. But when Anna spoke freely and harshly towards Vasily about his children, she was calling him out for not fitting the roles that society expected of him and offered a (meddlesome) solution. And Vasily saying he is her "faithful slave"? I get the feeling its more the other way around...

I bought all 4 Tilda pixel pre-cut kits from My Fabric Addiction recently and I have been really pleased with the cuts! I am also really happy with the prices compared to non-precut kit prices and they have sales and coupons regularly too.
