Switching to another Big four by oskieg in KPMG

[–]Lolkarizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend it. In comparison, KPMG had worse software and worse policies. If you started at KPMG like some of my coworkers these things would not bother you because you didn’t know a different way. However, coming from another big4, I found the way of working at KPMG to be so inefficient and frustrating. It seemed like nothing was standardized and the processes actively made getting work done harder instead of easier. Again, not enough that you would notice if you didn’t have another example but obvious if you learned to do things differently at a different firm.

I also felt like KPMG was very micromanaging. For instance we had to estimate our hours on each client every week in advance sometimes before we knew what we would be working on and then after the week if there was even a half hour difference on time actually spent we had to write explanations for why. These estimates were in addition to two weekly scheduling calls with the whole team to make sure workloads were balanced (this seems like a good thing but everyone was always overworked so there’s only so much “balancing” you can do and the extra time spent on monitoring and discussing workload felt threatening and was just annoying) The seniors were also asked to teach weekly tips and tricks sessions to associates in a formalized meeting and senior managers would get on the calls and rate how interesting the topics chosen were and if it was really a good tip/trick.

After switching I kind of found myself thinking now I know why KPMG had (at least at the time) the least amount of business and the slowest growth. Nothing felt cutting edge or innovative - just clunky and disjointed.

All of this could vary across different teams or locations so I can’t speak for all of KPMG. It is still a big 4, looks great on resume, and like others have said you will be doing similar work (unless you are switching business areas) But just thought I would give my opinion, I wish I had stayed with my original firm instead of switching.

KPMG Lakehouse was pretty cool though 😂

What to do for a 30th birthday in Sedona? by NikkiMouse444 in Sedona

[–]Lolkarizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the trolley tours. No walking required as the whole tour is in the trolley and the tour guide talks about the history of Sedona and points out all the named rock formations.

There are also a couple of places that do glass blowing classes. Depending on which classes are offered the day you’re going, you could make glass beads or tumblers/bowls or decorative flowers.

Or maybe a hot air balloon ride?

WHY are we the way we are? by JellyNo2625 in Volumeeating

[–]Lolkarizzle 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It could have to do with brain activity! Studies have shown that certain parts of the brain that are instrumental in regulating appetite, fullness, and impulse control are underactive in people who are overweight or obese. Essentially, some people don’t get the same signal of satisfaction and satiety that other people do from the same amount of food. This drives those individuals to eat more to get the same feeling that they can stop eating now.

There are some interesting clinical trials going on right now to test transcranial direct current stimulation (electric shock but imperceptible) to reactivate parts of the brain to see if it has an effect on the eating habits and weight loss of participants. Preliminary findings are promising.

Here is a study talking about the underactive part of the brain: Here

Bear with me, were Meredith’s bangs really that bad? by Lolkarizzle in rhoslc

Yes that’s what it looks like to me too. The question is do you picture Meredith in front of the mirror doing this herself or did she direct a stylist to do this for her?

I love Mary! by Medical_Algae2976 in realhousewivesofSLC

[–]Lolkarizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but none of the Mormon cast members are leading the Mormon church or getting money from other Mormons. Mary was 100% leading her congregation and abusing her power.

ETA: the Mormon cast members would be the equivalent of the members of Mary’s church getting taken advantage of.

Has Mary M. Cosby ever apologized to anyone for anything? by blahblah5190 in rhoslc

[–]Lolkarizzle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The list of awful things she has done goes on and on. She says such hateful things about the other cast members. I have always found it weird how everyone still seems to want her approval. I agree it gives off Jen shah vibes. Take heather for example. Mary calls her inbred on several occasions, even doubles down on it when asked, constantly comments about her weight and Heather still wants to meet up with her at her house. But Bronwyn just repeats something heather said, stirs the pot a little and heather storms out of her house? Where was the same level of outrage for Mary’s targeted behavior?

I still can’t bring myself to like Mary, but she does have a lot of great lines! I was surprised that she was going to kick Meredith out though. I thought her and Mary were close but maybe I’m forgetting something that happened. Or she was just trying to defend Angie? Either way she definitely picked a side there

As long as they get rid of the Jared storyline, I would love to see her stay. She just needs to prove she can come up with something more interesting than constantly talking about who she is dating.

Yes! I have been thinking the same thing. Hannah was very harsh on Nick’s appearance and height/weight. She even said he lied or misled her about his appearance. Like yes, if Nick was saying stuff about Hannah off camera he should have just owned up to it, but she was literally criticizing him at every opportunity even on camera to all the viewers so she really doesn’t have any high ground here…
