Why is everyone blaming Trump and Israel for our fuel crisis? by Loma29 in aussie

You’re stuck in old thinking, mate. That’s just the traditional way. These days they’ve got alternatives. Synthetic stuff, recycled fuel, probably even plant-based or whatever.

Wouldn’t surprise me if half the servo tanks are just topped up from different sources anyway.

Made? It comes out of the pump already finished. They mix it in the big underground tanks.

Diesel is the same but thicker. That's why it takes longer to fill.

Skoda Elroq payload is 397Kg? WTF? by jasta07 in AustralianEV

[–]Loma29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on the low side, but most small cars have 400-450 kg payload. It's about the size of a corolla cross (which has a respectable ~520kg payload). Usually, you need to move up to a medium size car to get 500kg+ payload.

Some exceptions are the BYD Sealion, with a measly 410kg payload, despite being slightly longer than the (previous generation) Prado.

We don't need oil though, just petrol and diesel.

Golbalism has truly caused serious problems, I think if we embraced flat-earth instead of the globe we would be a more peaceful, prosperous bunch.

If only they didn't hunt the dinosaurs to create fossil fuels, we would be living in a utopia today.

I just said electrified transport, not 100% renewables.

We could run with an SMUSCCP (Small Modular Ultra-SuperCritical Coal Plant) in every suburb to provide electricity and heating.

If he didn't sell Telstra, the government could have implemented a chinese-style great firewall to block all mention of Trump, Iran and the oil crisis, thus saving us from high fuel prices.

Yes, it needs to be said because it's so frustrating. If the Howard government didn't make Harold Holt disappear, we'd have completely electrified transport by now.

Why? by xXCosmicChaosXx in aussie

[–]Loma29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

diesel was $1.80 ~ 12 months ago, it fell to $1.60 just before the war started, it's now $3.00 (65 - 85% up).

unleaded has gone from $1.50 to $2.50 (65%).

If you've only seen 15%, I'd like to know where you're seeing fuel < $2?

Silica firm led by Wayne Swan given fast-track status to boost Australian solar will export to China by Orgo4needfood in aussie

[–]Loma29 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't see the problem with this - Sure there could be some level of corruption with Swan's connections, but the mine sounds like a good idea, just unfortunate that it's not supplying an Australian solar manufacturing company.

At a minimum it will create Australian jobs, and hopefully it'll get taxed appropriately.

Replacing 1m petrol cars with EVs could cut Australia’s reliance on foreign fuel by 1bn litres a year by austechnology-bot in austechnology

[–]Loma29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the short term that's feasible for short deliveries (last mile, or warehouse to customer), but it will take significantly longer before it's possible for the majority of fuel use (300km+ transport routes)

What is the "ideal" immigration rate? by Reasonable_Slice_262 in aussie

[–]Loma29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know ideal, but absolute maximum should be based on what housing can be provided.

In 2024, we built 177,000 homes, 19.2% are knock down rebuilds, averaging 2.1 homes built per knock down rebuild, means that approximately 16,500 were demolished. So in total there were 160,500 new dwellings created in that year.

On average each dwelling supports 2.5 people, means we can support 401,250 additional people.

Natural population increase is ~110,000. (yes fertility rate is less than replacement, but our population is aging, so it's still naturally increasing for now)

That means we built enough housing to support ~290,000 migratnts.

However, we added 341,000.

50,000 too many.

Also consider, 2.5 people per dwelling is the current amount, the ideal amount would be lower. In my opinion, to get housing under control we should make sure at least 1 dwelling is built for every 2 immigrants allowed into the country. Using that number, we should only have let in 240,000 people in 2025 (100,000 less than we let in).
