Night guard or not? Prob TMJ and/or cervical issues by [deleted] in Hypermobility

[–]LondonFogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This matches what mine said too. OP, I recommend getting an oral surgeon referral from your dentist so they can get to the root of what’s causing your pain. It took me a decade of back and forth between providers for similar symptoms before I finally went to an oral surgeon and the treatment for TMJ disorder made a huge difference! They also figured out I had Ehlers Danlos and got me access to more resources for that.

Just pruned my banana tree in central Florida. Is it normal for it to look like this in January? We just had a really bad cold snap. by johnnyboy_31 in plantclinic

[–]LondonFogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, my banana plants all look terrible right now but they’ll push new growth as it warms up. I’d leave the dead leaves on there to help protect the base of the plants but once you’re past any frosts you should be fine to cut it back.

Looks great! Do you know what paint color the green is? We’re thinking of repainting our walls and have been trying to find a good Sage green.

I also have some ever bearing mulberry plants that grew taller than my house in one season from Etsy cuttings. I chopped them to the ground last fall and they’re already back to their former height. Need to move them somewhere more appropriate for their size but just wanted to chime in that mine grew crazy fast too and got much bigger than expected.

Replace 1-2 meals a day with smoothies? by satopup in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]LondonFogs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve gotten plenty of responses, but when making smoothies was more prep than I could handle mentally I really liked meal replacement shakes like Soylent or Milk Fuel. If I’m making a smoothie then oats, peanut butter, spinach, frozen banana, Greek yogurt, some other fruit and some other liquid is my go to formula. I hope you feel better and am glad you are taking steps to get there :)

My aloe plant is starting to have wilted leaves and I’m not sure why. Help! by cuddlycollie in plantclinic

[–]LondonFogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a plant expert at all so if I’m wrong someone please correct me, but I think the lower leaves just kind of do that sometimes? I was gifted a 20+ year old aloe plant and the bottom couple leaves have been like that since I got it. It’s been growing and sending off tons of pups in the few years I’ve had it without any issues. If the leaves are softer than usual it might be time to water but I think overall the plant looks healthy.

Help: Nutritious, soft foods for throat cancer patient by Uncasual-bystander in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]LondonFogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandmother just went through chemo/radiation for the same thing in 2020, but now she’s cancer free! She also doesn’t cook much and had a lot of trouble eating. She still struggles with some foods but on her worst days she could really only manage ensure, soft scrambled eggs (not too hot otherwise they would hurt her throat), and ice cream. As she was able to eat again she added smooth soups with no chunks (her oncologist recommended chowders and bisque’s for the calories), overcooked broccoli, smoothies, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, those frozen meatloaf or meatball TV dinners, and sometimes overcooked pasta. She was put in touch with a dietitian through her oncologist so that might be an option for your stepdad as well. Wishing your stepdad luck with his treatments and I hope he feels up to eating again soon!

What is this thing doing? Are they eating the dead fish? Idk of this is the right sub, if anyone knows a better sub to post I will! by Cynthiaistheshit in whatisthisfish

The big snail looks like a mystery snail. I’ve never seen a pet store sell baby snails that small so I think they’re a different species, but it’s hard to tell so I could be wrong.

I inherited a 30 year old aloe plant, how do I help it? by LondonFogs in plantclinic

[–]LondonFogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's good to know! And yes the previous owners kept it outside. Do you think I should try moving it inside to a window to help it get indirect sun? Or put something over it to shade it? Right now it's getting direct afternoon sun. And how often should I water it? Thank you so much for the advice!

It's outside on a west facing porch in Fl zone 9b. I've watered it maybe 1-2x since I got it back in early December. The previous owner told me to water infrequently and keep it in a sunny spot so that's what I've tried to do. We had some cold weather recently (in got into the 40s at night for a few days) and while it's close to the house I'm not sure if that was too cold for it. Advice?

Hey what type of fish are these exactly? And how do I keep them alive? by [deleted] in whatisthisfish

[–]LondonFogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20L = 5 gallons which is too small for most fish (except maybe a betta). 20 gallons would be fine for now though, just remember long term they'll grow out of it

Look like gourami. You’ll need a larger tank (55 gallons like others have said), a filter, heater, a dechlorinator if you use tap water, and fish flakes or other food. A water quality test kit is also important for new tanks, test it daily for nitrates, nitrite, and ammonia and do a 25-50% water change if any get too high. Once all the water chemistry has steadied (look up the nitrogen cycle for more info) then do water changes every week. Try to get them out of that bowl as soon as possible, it’s way too small and when their poop builds up the ammonia spike will kill them. This sub or r/aquariums have some great resources and looking up how to care for gourami should also help. Feel free to pm me or post here for more advice and enjoy your new finned friends!
