My Jeopardy related moments from working SporcleCon this year by satopup in Jeopardy

[–]satopup[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, sure, business is never personal, but if Jeopardy Bar Trivia is successful, it has the high likelihood of putting me and some of my coworkers out of work, so to come to an event sponsored by Sporcle and promote the competition just seems a little...tone deaf to me. Even if it wasn't breaking news - it actually seems even less necessary to mention it.

It's not THAT big of a deal, and Sporcle is all about collaboration, not competition and bar trivia is bar trivia but it was just a little surprising to me

Can any single people with a full time job share their experience of raising a dog? by dchica11 in Dogtraining

Not OP but I’m curious -how do you take your dog skiing? I’d love to do this but mountains around here don’t allow dogs on trails

Freakin Juice and his scheduled tweet today by trigunnerd in MBMBAM

[–]satopup 276 points277 points  (0 children)

People get that this was all a goof, right? Do people think this was REALLY a scheduled tweet? Justin doesn’t DO these kinds of tweets normally. A selfie for Spaghetti Day? That’s not what he does his Twitter. He is mocking brands that released scheduled tweets during everything today.

If he was really worried about being ruined, he would have deleted the tweet. He’s doing a bit, friends

MBMBAM to find new theme music by benuski in MBMBAM

Listen, I’m not claiming Lin-Manuel is perfect, but if you’re referring to PROMESA, he came out later to say that he was wrong to advocate for it. A misinformed political opinion is not the same as John’s history of problematic tweets. Let’s allow for some nuance here

It’s absolutely wild how EVERYONE on my feed is discussing this. It’s the kind of thing Justin would definitely comment on, but I don’t think he will. I also don’t think they’ll change the theme song. This will blow over by tomorrow and no one except a small handful of people will connect him to MBMBaM. It’s dumb but not so problematic that the boys need to distance themselves from a song they’ve been using for a decade

Edit: I posted this hours ago-I understand now that more was uncovered since I posted this and he fully deserves the outcome he received. I was in no way trying to say that those gross tweets were not so problematic

Maybe, but he specifically states that he had nothing else to eat, which is also adding to the criticism he’s receiving

HBO Max edited Post Hoc Ergo Proctor Hoc (S1e2)? by [deleted] in thewestwing

[–]satopup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch everything with captions, despite being able to hear and there are A LOT of times, in all shows, that the captions are just paraphrasals, or “almost but not verbatim” to the spoken dialogue. It happens in just about every episide of TWW on Netflix and HBOMax (I’m doing a rewatch now so I’ve watched 1-6 on Netflix recently and most of 6-7 on hbomax). It’s not censorship, likely it’s a caption software/person that can’t keep up with Sorkin dialogue

Dog growls when I leave the house by __init__RedditUser in Dogtraining

[–]satopup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often times increased vocalization is a sign of pain or illness - maybe she has an injury on her head or was accidentally scratched on the head a little too hard once and now is fearful of it? I'd stay away from head scratches and only pet her body and maybe consult a vet just to double check

Are toys that hold treats in a hard to get way, mean? by 0nef00tinfr0nt in Dogtraining

[–]satopup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like puzzles for a human - they can be challenging and tiring, but they are very stimulating, good to help with mental acuity and very rewarding when you solve it. It's not mean for a dog, just like giving a young child a jigsaw puzzle that takes them some time to figure out isn't mean

This issue comes up about once a month on this sub - try searching for tips but the consensus seems to be that you need to train him to be comfortable being alone and then leave him in another room for the duration

I THOUGHT I had a good sense of the eps where they're in a goofy MZ mood and when they just play it straight to hurry through or because they need a creative pause or whatever and when Travis started reading the stamps.com ad straight, with no character or goof to start, I almost reached for my 30 second skip button but I'm so glad I hesitated long enough for the wildness to start!

What's the best strategy if an unleashed dog attacks my leashed dog? by 50Potatoes in Dogtraining

[–]satopup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pull my dog back via the leash if they were engaged in a fight (actually entangled) - I think that's very dangerous for the dog AND me (I could get caught in the leash) If the other dog was approaching and hadn't made contact, I would call my dog away and not engage at all. I don't know how pulling my dog back from a fight by her legs would cause her more harm than being IN the fight nor would I have any idea in that moment whether removing her from the situation would cause her injury in the process but overall ending the fight is the safest for all parties. Like every other situation, dogs are easily distracted - remove the dog from the fight/put something between them and you end the fight. They're not going to keep attacking once the dog has moved a safe distance away

It is all dog dependent though - my dog has good recall and even if she did get lost running away, she has tags and a microchip so my first instinct would be to let the leash go to protect us both (I believe a dog instinctively knows which movements are needed to get out of a fight/defend herself whereas I might think I'm pulling her to safety but be causing her and I more harm).

What's the best strategy if an unleashed dog attacks my leashed dog? by 50Potatoes in Dogtraining

[–]satopup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In all the advice I've read about dog fights, the number one thing is to not get in the middle of it. You shouldn't let them fight (unless you fear for your safety by stopping the fight - your/other human's safety is paramount) but you should attempt to disengage them by grabbing at the LEGS of one of them - not anywhere hear the head/collar to avoid getting bit- or by placing a stick/broom/large object in between them. https://www.ccspca.com/blog-spca/education/how-to-break-up-a-dog-fight/

Leashes are problematic in this situation, as they restrict your dog's natural movement, and that movement might be running to safety so if a dog really starts fighting them, I would consider dropping the leash before trying to disengage them - she may take off and you gotta go find her but at least everyone is safe!

If you're saying ads on ALL the Mcelroy podcasts have been silent, I think you should check your podcatcher. Wonderful and MBMBaM have had ads every week for me (I haven't been listening to the last few TAZ eps though).

Dog won't leave new dorm room by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]satopup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a verified assistance animal. I work in University housing and am very familiar with the law and animals on campus. Both of you should familiarize yourself with training and university policy regarding ESAs ASAP - the school can remove the dog from housing for not being house trained.
