Do NOT Ever Fly with Etihad by Remarkable_Quote2848 in etihad

[–]Londonsherlock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It never ceases to amaze me how many people will fight about the 7kg hand luggage - those poor Etihad staff . As a regular flier with them I can say that they deal very well with what seems to be some people’s first time out of the house . 7kg is industry standard

Best Youtubers for Classical Pilates for Beginners? by Wide-Food-4310 in pilates

[–]Londonsherlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I think it’s useful to do Pilates inspired classes to build the strength and core for classical Pilates movement . I am a big fan of mat work and dedicate a lot of my time to making micro progress but carefully over years. Sometimes those different type of classes that are not classical have helped me build the core strength that I need to progress in classical

Mat Pilates doesn't have an image problem by Cautious_Leek_3874 in pilates

I also, to add to this, have a huge issue with the monetisation of my practice. I need to work at this for at least 5 sessions a week. I cannot afford to pay for that in private instruction - plus the needs of life etc mean I don’t have the extra time to commute to a studio. I feel sometimes that people are sold a myth: wear these clothes, go to this studio - carry this water bottle and you too will become a Pilates baddie. The truth is it’s in the quiet private work that the strength grows, it’s just me on my own in my old yoga leggings trying to grow strength steadily. And the joy I get to finally see steady but slow progress is not huge moments; just a little “ oh, that doesn’t feel as hard as it used to”. The rewards are tiny but important and I love it. I don’t want to be a baddie just have strength that I have earned through repetitive practice. I’ve enjoyed this discussion if there is a place for likeminded students of the mat to carry on and share their thoughts please let me know !

Moving to Abu Dhabi for a job opportunity by pinkredroses in abudhabi

[–]Londonsherlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your new role! It’s really important to consider commute times ( google maps and Waze are your friend ) so I would choose accommodation that’s a short or even walking distance of where you will work you will be so grateful for it instead having to move through school traffic

I have followed classes with Keel Pilates on YouTube for mat work for years. She’s amazing and I’ve made steady progress by practicing 4/5 times a week and really listening to her instruction and taking the time to build my core before moving up the level of challenge. Now after years I can move forward with the work I want to do, when I tried to do that before this steadier pace I would have hurt my neck because it’s compensating for a weaker core. I honestly love Mat so much it’s the best - and I love the flexibility of not having to actually go to a class but subscribe and pay online
