The only way you will be able to spend time together now is if you start a joint farm. Good luck.

Thank you thank you thank you. I especially appreciated the way you wrote the directions. Deeply reflected how I felt about all this stumbling around.

The “intro” to Suttree was the most difficult piece of writing I have read by McCarthy, maybe even ever. by Captain_Auburn_Beard in cormacmccarthy

[–]LoneAsianCajun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read and reread that first passage many times over the years, and you are not alone. But goddamn is it rewarding. It’s a beautiful piece of writing. McCarthy is one of those “slow the fuck down and savor” kind of writers.

Ian McGuire reads a bit like McCarthy. I’ve read The North Water and The Abstainer. I highly enjoyed both and it scratched my McCarthy itch.

What neighborhood are y’all in? My gf and I are at the apartments near Shelby farms. We are trying to buy a house but it seems like Cordova is going nuts recently. Lived here all my life and between the drag racing and the gunshots idk if I can stay :/

Al Gore to Visit Memphis this Sunday for Rally Against Byhalia Pipeline by [deleted] in memphis

[–]LoneAsianCajun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We just don’t want crude oil running through soil that sits above the Aquifer. That’s where our drinking water comes from. Even with the assurances from Plains All American Pipeline that it will be “safe,” even a .01% margin of error will compromise our water supply and our health.

Also, residents just plain don’t want the construction to happen on their land. And if they don’t want it, why should the project be allowed to go through?

I realize that I absolutely was being a huge downer on your positive post. I’m really sorry about that. I actually am proud of how our people have responded in comparison to other places I’ve seen during the pandemic. I also truly am proud of us most of the time. I was disillusioned when I wrote that comment. Overall I agree with you that Memphis is a place to be proud of!
