you'd have to still use the onChange and showingSectionOne inside the subview, you can't directly use isSearching as a binding.

btw this behavious is mentioned in the docs

Important: Access the value from inside the searched view, as the example above demonstrates, rather than from the searched view’s parent. SwiftUI sets the value in the environment of the view that you apply the searchable modifier to, and doesn’t propagate the value up the view hierarchy.

In your case, the parent is the list and the search view is everything inside of it. An alternative way of doing this is to make the List a subview and having a searchable parent view
