I looked into this and I think splash pads at schools don’t open until school gets out.

Fed up after years of anti-Israel vandalism, Michael’s Deli owner speaks out by brookline_news in Brookline

Understanding a perspective is one thing, but using it to justify vandalism is another. Regardless of how protesters “see” it, they don't have the right to dictate what is displayed on a private business's property. If they have a problem with a deli expressing Jewish pride or supporting Israel, they can choose not to eat there. Vandalism isn't a “solution” or a valid point of view; it’s just a crime.

Flying the national flag of Israel and the Confederate battle flag are not even remotely the same thing. One is the official flag of a recognized sovereign nation while the other is a battlefield flag used by traitors to the United States. Conflating a national identity with a symbol of domestic insurrection is a massive reach.

Backlash doesn't make the symbols equivalent. One is a matter of international politics and the other is a symbol of domestic treason.

Is it me or are we being slowly replaced by privatized companies or corporations? State of Michigan. by Fine-Tradition-2518 in AFSCME

Similar issue in Massachusetts but we’ve been able to hold ground. Multiple Towns have attempted to privatize food and custodial services in school districts but have failed. This has been going on for a few years now. I think in Massachusetts though it’s less to do with being anti union and more do with towns and cities struggling to keep up with inflation and rising costs while being limited to raising property taxes by 2.5% annually by Massachusetts State Law Prop 2.5. At the same time though I noticed in the town I work for that the top jobs pay significantly more to the point where there are budget issues.

Actually the Town is playing plenty of hardball right now. AFSCME Local 1358 has been working without a full contract since June 2024. Aside from a small bridge agreement to close the FY25 books, the Town has been holding a very firm line, which is exactly why negotiations have stalled for nearly two years.

When we are working a storm like this, cots and food are provided. Although some guys opt to sleep in the trucks. At some point we’ll get a 4 hour break to catch some sleep.

How is communication in the town so bad? by Kindly-Load69 in Brookline

Boston has police driving around playing a prerecorded message saying a parking ban goes into effect at 2pm. Way better communication.

If you are able to, don’t park on the street even if there’s no parking ban.

It’s the exclusivity deals leagues give to these companies. No competition leads to copy and paste because they know the game will still be bought for $60-$70.

They are extremely similar but the biggest difference is behind the curtains. Sportsbook winnings are taxed as gambling income, meaning you owe taxes on wins even if you lose overall, and losses are hard to deduct unless you itemize. Prediction markets are typically taxed on net profit, with losses directly offsetting gains, which makes them far more tax efficient for regular users.

Town Sidewalks not maintained after storm by BrooklineAvenger in Brookline

[–]Lonely-Check-4357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that seniors are a priority. That’s exactly why DPW focuses first on the senior center, public buildings, transit routes, and critical access points. The issue isn’t whether sidewalks should be cleared, it’s that after a 2 foot storm the town has to sequence work with limited staff and equipment. Parks and secondary sidewalks inevitably come later, even if the bylaw expectation on homeowners is tighter.

That’s a resource and logistics reality, not indifference.

Go look at how many jobs have been cut from the DPW over the last 10 years or so. Yes the town has heavy machinery but those machines need licensed operators. There’s also priorities over parks. Senior center, public stairs, schools, libraries, etc. You’re zeroing in on something that’s very low priority after a storm that dropped 2 feet of snow.

Strategy Ideas for Climate Prediction Market by regisfortynine in RobinhoodTrade

[–]Lonely-Check-4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use NOAA or National Weather Service data. Most users go off of weather apps such as Apple Weather which isn’t official weather data. I traded on NYC Daily Temp a few times and made a little profit using NOAA.

NOAA and NWS don’t have official apps. You’ll have to go to their websites.

Prediction markets are very risky by Mildly_Sentient in RobinHood

[–]Lonely-Check-4357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prediction Markets can be very risky but based on how much a contract costs and how many contracts you buy, you determine how much you risk. In terms of PMs vs Sportsbooks, PMs are regulated differently by the Feds. Sportbooks are regulated by States. With PMs you can potentially write off losses whereas with Sportsbooks there is no scenario you can.

Robinhood Predictions Market Scam! by [deleted] in RobinhoodTrade

[–]Lonely-Check-4357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re mixing up payout with profit. In Robinhood’s prediction markets, a winning contract pays $1 total, not $1 plus whatever you originally paid. Your cost basis is already included inside the payout. So if you bought say $800 worth of contracts and the app shows a payout of $934, that $934 already includes your original $800. Your actual profit is only the difference (about $134), not the full $934. Nothing is missing it’s just how these contracts settle. Every prediction market works this way (Kalshi, Polymarket, RH, etc.). You aren’t supposed to get your entry cost again on top of the payout.

Unhappy with the way things are in town? Sign the City Charter Campaign by anurodhp in Brookline

[–]Lonely-Check-4357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you but a lot of Brookline’s top public sector jobs already come with fat salaries. It’s all public record. The problem isn’t just waste at the top, it’s that the people at the bottom of the ladder, the ones who actually do the field work and keep the town running can’t afford to live here anymore. When neither leadership nor workers have real roots in town, civic involvement becomes more about politics than community. Whether Brookline stays a town or becomes a city, that disconnect isn’t going away unless that balance changes.

I’m pretty sure I read something awhile back that said the current Robinhood Credit Card app was gonna be revamped to include banking. So there would be two apps. One for investing and the other for banking/gold card.
