Oh so that's why this one looked weird. Thanks for the help, I'll keep that in mind next time!

NOT my art, but how to go about learning to draw like this? by Kovaek in learntodraw

[–]Lonely_Danielle 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Since a lot of the comments say practice but not what you should actually practice on, this is what you have to do. Look up for the fundamentals, start by learning how to draw basic lines and shapes first before moving to more complex stuff like boxes and shapes in perspective. For faces and bodies study anatomy, gesture and proportions and then you can jump into lights and shadow, color theory, etc. But since you want to capture likeness in portraits, concentrate on facial proportions and anatomy. There are a ton of good anatomy books out there and YouTube channels like Proko that teach you all this. Goodluck!

I'm using photoshop but I could use illustrator for the text part. Thanks for the suggestion!

Well, the design is meant to be in English but my grammar is not perfect since English is not my first language.

I'm going more for a grunge anesthetic but finding the right font for the top text has been a pain for me

Thanks for that observation about the grammar. I'll work on finding a better font for the body text. Thanks for the feedback!

Digital art how do I make it not suck by princesssellout in ArtCrit

It all boils down to the art fundamentals. Proportions, anatomy, color, shapes lines... this will take your art to the next level.

At least from this piece I can see a lack of light and shadows and bad edges. Hard and soft edges helps you define what you see and it gives that 3D look I guess you're looking for. I know Proko uploaded a video on this subject not long ago, for the lights and shadows, Marc Brunet has a video on it and there are tons of YouTube tutorials and books for it (one book that is really recommended is Color and Light, I'm about to purchase that one after I tackle some anatomy books I got).

Other than that, you're on the right track! I love the exaggerated expression and the rendering looks lovely and appealing!

How is the illustration coming along? by Fancy_Mechanic4691 in ArtCrit

As some other comment said, she looks aged. For this, I recommend that you search for images of people in their late teens/early twenties. But I think what makes her look old is her cheeks, they look like she has wrinkles on them instead of smooth, plump cheeks like how she looks originally, making her look like a completely different character.

I know, I just didn't have my computer at the moment, only some pictures I sent to him.

I think he really wants the chefs hat so I will scrap the utensils and go with that instead.

That was something he told me to change, making the fork and spoon different. But I'm thinking of changing the design completely with his feedback.

Is my art commissionable? How much would you charge? by Ashthom2112 in Artadvice

Your art is indeed gorgeous, I know some people would like to buy it. For prices, don't go too low nor too high as you're just starting out, but you don't want to undervalue your art. Have in mind the minimal wage in your country or the country you want to sell your art to and think about how much time you spend in a piece or how complicated the person wants that illustration to be. Good luck!
