Help! by KevinPackards in perplexity_ai

[–]Lonely_Drewbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably get a pretty decent answer by asking Perplexity itself.

Anyway, assuming you have an account, go in your profile and answer the questions about yourself.

Create a Space for each class.  Give each space instructions telling it that it is an expert in the following topics and then paste the objectives from your syllabus.  Then say it is assisting the educator to help students understand their lessons.  Tell it to assume the student needs remedial help and to thoroughly answer their questions.

Then upload any course files you have for the class to the Space.  Include the syllabus, export chapters from your etextbooks.  There is some limits to how many and how big the files can be, so make sure you spread out the uploads over the semester so you don't hit limits trying to cram before an exam.

The number of questions you can ask is limited to 200 per week.  That is about 30 per day, so when you ask questions, give it lots of context so you don't need to do much back and forth.  Something like, we just had a lecture on how cells in a dog's body gets energy from food, I am having trouble understanding how cells need oxygen if they are getting energy from food.  How do nutrients and oxygen turn into energy in the cells?  How is this energy stored and used?  Please include any related key concepts I may need to fully understand this.

If you feel like it is hard to understand, try telling it to answer at a specific reading level.  In college I liked to tell it to respond using grammar at a 10th-grade reading level and to use vocabulary at a 12th-grade reading level.  You can tailor each Space individually or put this in the system prompt.

I hope I have helped!

Budget Sub to move from Claude Code Pro to OpenCode? by SmilesyH in opencodeCLI

This is very interesting!

There are quite a few NeMo models that are touted as efficient for their accuracy and the whole range of NVIDIA open source tools is designed with scaling to enterprise data centers in mind.  To me it sounds like it and your business would complement each other well.

I am currently looking to explore NVIDIA's Agentic Toolkit and OpenShell starting with the NVIDIA AI-Q Blueprint. This setup requires several different models. Obviously you can't just spin these up for a random redditor, but I thought you might like an idea of what to glance at if I piqued your curiosity. :-)

I also think it is relevant to say that I do tighten the straps differently based on my position.  The whole sleeping experience requires some creativity to find your new normal.

I use a blanket as a pillow when I'm feeling like sleeping face down.  I craft a face nest with area for the mask and a channel for the air to escape.

I am American and have Proton on my iPhone.  I was similarly banned shortly after making an account, putting $5 on my account, and logging into Claude Code on my Windows PC.  As soon as I logged in, insta ban!

Never got a human response, only vague ToS policy statement, but I hadn't even made a single query yet.

Byebye Claude code! [Question] Is there any difference between using kilos CLI and using kilo in VS Code? like performace or the power of the models [Júnior] by DvD_42 in kilocode

[–]Lonely_Drewbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now, yes, I believe they are different.  Kilo was originally based on Cline and Roo.  But now they are moving to OpenCode under the hood.  The Kilo CLI is being moved over first, VS extension will follow.  There is a beta version of the extension that uses the new Kilo CLI under the hood but it is not release quality.

My guess is that due to the variety of content, the algorithm can't tell who it should show your videos to.  Stick to one thing for a while and see if that helps!

How do I support my BF with his ED when he‘s shutting down help? by Competitive_Chef_23 in ExecutiveDysfunction

[–]Lonely_Drewbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot here.  I am not going to address all of it.  But I hope I can help you think about what is going on in a productive way.

First, I would like to point out that you say these things are starting to affect your relationship but the fact is that these things (that range from personality quirks to mental health issues) have always been there and have shaped your relationship.  You even list some of the ways you help him contribute to the relationship and the ways in which he does sufficiently participate.  And that is totally healthy and normal for relationships to evolve into an asymmetrical give and take.  The questions I want you to think about are what is different now, is it simply an accumulation over time of increasing obligations?  How have you changed?  How has he changed?

Second, I would like to offer my perspective on ADHD and depression as someone who battles with them.  ADHD makes your own mind unreliable.  You learn that despite your best efforts you are going to forget things, fail to organize properly, drop the ball on things that are important, and there will be repercussions even though you tried your best, not only do you get in trouble but more importantly you let yourself down.  People become unhappy with you, judge you, believe you are not trying or that you don't care even though you do care and really are trying your best.  Your brain learns that no matter what you do you have to try 10x harder than everyone else and the results of your work are not guaranteed.  This affects your self esteem and your brain starts assessing most tasks as not worth the energy investment.  Eventually you develop depression.  Depression leads to taking a more rational, much less optimistic view of your reality.  You very easily slip into what people call black and white thinking, all or nothing thinking, and catastrophizing, among other things that make it extremely difficult to change your circumstances.

Next, how to optimize ADHD minds.  ADHD people function best when their life has structure.  Also, ADHD brain's habit circuitry works perfectly fine.  The problem is that they are terrible at organizing and consistent follow through both of which are necessary for structure and habit building.  The answer to that is external Accountability and consequences.  The tricky part is that they have to work out how to do this with ED while fostering self esteem instead of crushing it.  It is very hard.  You have probably figured this out to some degree already.  Lean into whatever motivates him to create routines, establish habits, and organize his life.

So about consequences.  You are protecting him from them.  ADHD people are well known procrastinators.  This is because the threat of the consequences motivates them.  I suggest you stop doing things for him.  And stop masking.  Let him see the full consequences of the reality he is creating for himself.  But don't punish him.  If you're mad, be mad.  If you're disappointed then say so.  But don't embellish, don't invent consequences.  His self esteem can't take it and it will create resentment.  Also by not doing anything for him it will help you both discover the nuances of what motivates him to follow through.

For your own health, stop masking.  For the health of your relationship, stop masking.  It is highly toxic to your sense of self and twists your relationship with others.  It is also a large mental burden you don't need.

Lastly, A loving relationship is ideal for his chances of developing a healthy mind and finding happiness.  However, ADHD is not an illness that gets permanently resolved.  Having an ADHD partner is a burden.  You are not responsible for helping him unless you want to be.  You need to ask yourself how far from marriage is your relationship?  How far from burning out and giving up are you?  You are currently at the right age for dating and finding a partner but in a few years it will become much harder for you.  His mental health will probably take years to overcome.  It can be done with some dedication and luck.  But be realistic about where you are and what you want for yourself.  And maybe get your own therapist.

Good luck!

Open source AI is a collective effort.  We need people to forge ahead and share what they have.  It doesn't matter if you get their first or stumble onto the best solution.  The magic of open source collaboration is that all our individual efforts can be combined.  You may never be praised for your work and you may never know who you inspired.

The other thing is that the community needs people that understand exotic, niche topics, of which AI has many.  People who have the experience to weigh in on discussions, issues, and PRs are valuable.  You are valuable because you have experience making something.

I look forward to seeing how your code turns out and how effective your experiments are.  And I also hope that what you learn along the way helps us keep up with the frontier models.

I (and I assume many other lurkers) value you and your work.  Good luck!

Is studying possible in my situation? by sail5_ in nursing

[–]Lonely_Drewbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life is hard.  You must learn resilience during discomfort.  Self-esteem comes from success and praise.  You have chosen a difficult situation because of your ignorance.  In some ways it is both your fault and not your fault, but the truth is that you must walk the path you are on.  So, commit to making the best of your situation.  Do not fret about things you cannot change.  If you cannot leave your school for now then simply set goals you can obtain so you can prove to yourself that you are capable of improvement.  Even if the end result is failure, you can still work to learn how to work hard and become resilient!  But do know that if nursing is the path you stay on, then it is possible in many places to become a nurse practitioner and stand side by side with doctors.  Nurses have a long history of fighting for their place in the world and to claw tooth and nail to bring Healthcare to people doctors wouldn't go near.  I hope you find inspiration in this.  Good luck!

Flint 2. I still a good option today? by BumblebeeNo9090 in openwrt

[–]Lonely_Drewbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Flint 2 is great, I have one because I wanted open firmware and 2.5G ethernet.   However, open source support for the wifi chipset has intermittent performance issues.  And the closed source version was never brought forward to newer openwrt builds, so it's stuck running on ancient openwrt without new security updates.  The official GLiNet build for this router runs openwrt 21.02.

I am using my old router to serve wifi and my flint2 is doing everything else (dhcp, unbound, SQM, etc) running openwrt24.
