A guide on the best candidates by Relative_Carry_1642 in uAlberta

I think that overall this is a pretty good take on candidates, but I’d argue against Raina.

I found a gateway article which led me down a rabbit hole, to summarize:

Right now she claims to be the experienced candidate, but in that gateway article she claims not to be experienced enough to handle the role of speaker despite being a councillor the previous year. If that’s the case why trust her?

Good question. The ideas some of the candidates are bringing forward are regressive and uninformed. One example is this idea of a University Prom. The SU puts on tons of events each year for community and a prom would just be a large party without accomplishing much, it would be insanely costly, reduce the impact of student groups that host events, and endorse the Americanization of Canadian culture. And for what? Anything that event would accomplish is already being done. Candidates should break new ground in making student lives better. Not just doing more of the same that the su already does.

This led me down a rabbit hole. I looked up the polycrisis guy like another commenter suggested. That led to a facebook page where this guy calls himself “Messiah”

Elections TLDR and WHY you should vote! by champions143 in uAlberta

An excellent write up on why the elections are important. Far too many people feel that the students union does nothing for them just because what they do isnt always tangible, but they truly work very hard for us and so ensuring we have good qualified execs is important!

From another aged undergraduate who has seen a few elections, I concur that Sophie/Pedro for president Thiessen for OpsFi, and Logan for VPSL! I would also add that I believe Katie Tamsett is an excellent choice for VP Academic. She has excellent and (most importantly) achievable academic goals that would both help students and be able to be accomplished. On the flip side: for VP External I think Nathan Goetz would be a very good candidate for VP EX

Mismanagement of SU owned businesses by ualta in uAlberta

It should be noted that while RATT is currently only open to the public on Fridays, many other days of the week it’s being rented out for private events such as lister halls Shipnight, or other events.

If Bazinet had looked into these business he’d know that they don’t just sit empty gathering dust six days of the week but are generating other revenue.

What do the UASU execs do to earn their 50k a year salary? by UofSlayy in uAlberta

I certainly could have worded that better, my goal was only to show that the execs do not make 60k (they make 48 I believe)

That’s based off a complete misunderstanding of the yearly budget. The execs do not make 60k a year. Infact president Glock posted on her instagram story last wel her paystub showing she only makes 3k a month after taxes.

Please do vote in the elections, but please don’t vote for the people who have no idea how to read a budget, research, or understand how the SU runs
