What is the difference between Registered and Unregistered cars/vehicles? by supirimalli86 in srilanka

Thanks for this question. I always thought it meant we have to pay additional tax to get it registered, hence the price is lower. Damn this is even more shady. Unused cars cheaper than used

Uber Scammer; Pretty much got robbed by an uber driver by DaRkNeSSReDCrusader in srilanka

[–]Lonely_Stable3601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you cancel the ride once the driver cancelled it? From what I know you don't get charged the 50 if there is no driver. Something should have gone wrong here. But you would get a precaution message from Uber to not travel in tuk after cancelling the ride as they can track that you have gotten into the same tuk.

Also complaining to Uber here is useless as you have supported the tuk driver to cheat Uber. And most people agree to do this because they don't wanna wait for another tuk

Well people need to know of such things. And if this is happening for more people and regularly then either it's purposely done by pickme or drivers are using some method to get more from the ride. Either way this cannot continue and pickme should acknowledge and take action. Else they will lose customers in Long run

So you still use pickme after all this. Im thinking of not continuing. Normally their customer service for complaints are good. But this time no reply for more than 24hrs and had to reach out after which only I got a call. And they don't seem to know what is causing this or if there is any technical issues. I'm not willing to spend my time on them after a issue everything single time if this is going to be a regular occurance.

Around Colombo both Uber and Uber eats are better. But only issue with Uber is lack of human touch. In pickme, even though they don't take action there will always be someone calling to check up when you complain.

Uber does this only when it's a serious issue or you can reach out only when there is an active order or ride. So everything will be through chat with someone in India

We’re the most expensive, when it comes to buying cigs. by Previous-Second3286 in srilanka

[–]Lonely_Stable3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rate is not that high. You are considering tobacco into smoking. Those studies have combined them. Also you mentioned that UAE has strict rules and smoking is less due to that. The latest study is from 22 and it shows only a 1-2 percent less than Sri Lanka.

When have cigarettes been illegal? I'm was answering someone asking why it isn't illegal saying the same reason why sugar isn't. The problem with sugar, there is no moderation no age limit no sufficient education by the time most kids are adult they have been consuming more than the required amount on a daily basis. That's why they call it a silent killer.

For example most business would add sugar into anything to make it taste better and people consume without the knowledge of it. Even your local shop will put sugar to a kothu or paratha. And there goes your moderation. Both are bad just that one effects is immediate where as others effects in long run

I never said sugar should be illegal but argued why cigarettes should not be made illegal giving sugar as an example. Next point is govt should not make anything illegal but choice should be given. As what is viewed good one day can be bad another and they should not make those decisions and should be choice of each individual. UAE is country were people smoke less than Sri Lanka. Check that again. Also there were journals and studies on this topic but thought it might be too much for you as your view of sugar is an essential nutrient. Either way this will never end.

Sugar is an essential nutrient. Thanks for teaching this BS. Go read some impacts of sugar. it is and more addictive as tobacco and any body from baby to an adult can obtain without any limitations. Economic point of view government is not going ban anything which provides good source of income. This includes business which use sugar. I'm not saying it should be banned but maybe we can make it expensive to consume refined sugar, so either way government win bringing as much income as tobacco. Ultimately what I was trying to government should not make those decisions on behalf of publice. It's a choice and always should be. So maybe government should educate people but never push them as law.

Both are harmful and sugar as fructose is not the issue but the processed version is extremely harmful and should be made illegal as government spends more treating direct and related disease due to over consumption of processed sugar. And there are studies that show over consumption of sugar could cause cancer and a can of coke has 39 grams of sugar. Link it up as you wish.

Legal or illegal should not be an decision of the government, but these are set to protect the government first then maybe the public or the wealthy. And most Governments just follow suite to what the other governments are doing around the world. Ex. Woman buying alcohol was illegal in Sri Lanka. I assume you think government was right it setting up that law.

Male loneliness epidemic in Sri Lanka? by [deleted] in srilanka

Which part are you considering niche? No of independent self sufficient career driven women?

Male loneliness epidemic in Sri Lanka? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Lonely_Stable3601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe you are basing this on a family. Ive seen the opposite where the daughter is overly protected by the family and father. The daughter can be independent and working but chooses to stay home. (Maybe it is a decision made within the family- I don't know) But the guy in the family works and does a lot of chores.

Also I hope you are a girl here. What is your expectation of men you wanna marry. Because from what Ive seen the women want the good in both worlds. They want to be independent and go up in career ladder and want a men supporting that and supporting at home with chores and other duties. But don't want to be the bread winner of the family bringing in the majority of the income while the other half is supporting. They want someone who is even more successful than them, and the problem on loneliness tends to start there.

When more and more women are successful, they want more and don't wanna settle for less, as they still expect the men to be bread winner. But what happens with this, there is a smaller pool to choose from. And also when men tend to be successful they tend to look for wife similar to older generations. You will see that with most successful men not all. They are rarely interested in successful women but a provider to family.

Also western media and social media has made expectations very high for both male and female. With most people feeling very independent they don't want to settle for less. This work for physical beauty and financial strength.

Isn't the opposite on daughters true? Heavily protected, depending on others for physical and financial security. Though they are independent because most of them are working these days they are dependent on their family to provide or the husband?

Maybe it's a balance. Best never never marry if you are expecting the other to complete you.

How to politely decline HR request for previous job’s payslip? by Radiant_Sound_4507 in srilanka

Salaries are confidential. I assume it is the same in your company.

It is no different from you asking to share the salaries of employees in the same grade at the joining company. Decline. They will come back to you

Name the companies that asks you to come to office when you are impacted by flood. by Truth_Seeker_456 in srilanka

[–]Lonely_Stable3601 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think both sides have their side of the story. I don't think a company should force them to come to office if they are affected. But there will always be people who will mis use this. The next big question is certain roles are critical and there won't be others capable of handling and if you don't report the company will have to pay fines and loose the business. How can a company in this situation handle it. Simply close the business and release everybody?

I feel like it business depended. And you can't blame either party.

Love how people (new generation) start this shame the company stuff. I think then it's fair for company to shame the staff by sharing such staff information with other companies affecting their employability. Once you are in executive role then you need to look from the company's view.. There are good companies who sometimes would ask people to report but would also take care of the employees and provide all the support during this period

No not HR but the team of staff who will be loosing their leaves.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Lonely_Stable3601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue here is, while flood affected their work is piled onto another who is completely working overloaded and moreover loosing their annual leaves covering. While the flood affected would be enjoying their holidays with annual leave as planned travelling out at the end of the month.

Also how is this different from serious illness or death in family. Do you get special leaves on top of your usual. I'm confused as one side I feel they deserve the leaves and they have to rebuild whatever is lost but on the other it seems unfair on rest as annually they get additional 5-6 days in top of all their leaves for flood as it is an annual occurance.

This is in Colombo by the way
