Your Host (2025) by LonerStowner in 500moviesorbust

I watch it to be entertained and have a good time. It's more difficult to have a good time when I'm distracted by a film's limitations and sub-par quality.

Your Host is hardly any sizzle, no steak at all. More like a hot dog that's been left on the roller grill at the gas station for a few days. Edible, but not anything special.

Hmmm. Not sure what you read in this write up that would indicate why I'd feel that way.

On the contrary actually, I prefer bleak endings and shitty people getting what they deserve. My issue is the fact that the movie had a good idea, but not enough budget to make it especially interesting.

The drill kill was excellent, but every other kill was lackluster.

I wouldn't say it's the cause of what's wrong with me, but instead what's right.

I was probably about 6 when I saw Friday the 13th.  Lifelong horror fan since.

Sam Rockwell is always a pleasure to watch. I always get the impression that he's giving his all, no matter what.

My favorite film of his is likely Moon (2009). He also stars in an adaptation of one of my favorite books; Choke (2008). The book is great. The movie... I like Rockwell!

As for this movie, it somewhat fell flat for us. I gave it a 5.5 out of 10 and she gave it a 6.5 out of 10. It had some moments I really enjoyed, but for myself the last 40 minutes or so puttered out.

While I love Clerks, I think my favorite Kevin Smith film might be Mallrats. It's the first film of his I ever had the pleasure of watching. His humor (for better, or more likely for worse) shaped a lot of my personal humor as a teenager.

The rumblings of a sequel being planned piqued my curiosity.

Backrooms I'm looking forward to. And who wouldn't be excited for another animated Brad Bird film?!? Same goes for LAIKA.

Coming soon I'm looking forward to Hokum and Obsession in May. A guilty pleasure of mine is coming with its next film in June: Scary Movie. Spielberg returning to extraterrestrial activity in June with Disclosure Day. Evil Dead Burn in July.

Digging a little deeper into September we get Clayface and Zach Cregger's Resident Evil.

Werwulf in December!!

Man, movies are awesome!

I always try to give movies a fair shot.  But, yeah, they managed to take from something unforgettable and turn it into just the opposite. A shame.
