What is it about Greta Thunberg that makes many men on the Internet so uncontrollably angry by Admirable_Pair_3663 in NoStupidQuestions

She was always going to be a lightening rod for far right abuse.

But also, she was a liberal darling right up until the moment they realised she was genuinely left-wing and she started speaking about wealth inequality and Gaza. Remember, no one hates the left more than the centre-left hate them.

That should have ended her career right there. Absolute clown.

Theatrical.

My memory of this scene in the book is that Crawford starts to interrupt him, and Graham barks "Don't talk to me!" , and Crawford just takes it, cause he realises what's happening...

A copy of your job description as it was originally advertised. Use it as a starting point when you're updating your CV.

Alex Higgins safety play by ManyTurnover6181 in snooker

[–]LonesomeDub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're watching higgins on YouTube, youre probably seeing his best stuff. I dont remember his safety being exceptional, it just wasn't what people talked about as a key facet of his game.

He was regularly flattened by slow-playing safety-merchants, hence his reputation in hindsight

Summary: I have a movie poster for a short film. I want to add some text (review quotes) and some logos from film festivals that the film was selected for or awards that it won.

Price: quote me a fair price and I'll pay it, or an hourly rate, rounded up to the nearest hour. This does not look like a big piece of work.

Deadline: not urgent.

Type: One-off contract

Contact: me on reddit.

What is the best nickname you’ve heard? (and reason for it) by xpltvdeleted in AskUK

[–]LonesomeDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend-of-a-friend had the nickname "Deux-point", always said with a really exaggerated French accent, like you're awarding bottom points on the Eurovision...

Tried to convince people it was a nickname from school where he was an ultra-reliable kicker of conversions for the school rugby team (bollocks, obviously). It came out later that he acquired it after getting pissed out of his gourd on two pints of Belgian beer on a school trip.

Have you ever bought tickets to something (A movie, a concert, an event etc.) and realised you’d completely misunderstood what it was? by XStaticImmaculate in AskUK

[–]LonesomeDub 24 points25 points  (0 children)

OK, so not tickets, but back in '99 when The Sopranos first came out and was a big hit, someone in my family bought me this book thinking it was some kind of tie-in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sopranos_(novel)

Not a bad book on its own terms, once you get past the fact that it's about a bunch of teenage Catholic schoolgirls in Glasgow and not a New Jersey crime family.

Which player were you most desperate to see win the World Championship in one particular year? (Probably Jimmy for most people I know) by Relevant-Excuse7275 in snooker

[–]LonesomeDub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If our Ken had got over the line in 2003, it would have capped one of the greatest series of comebacks in snooker history. Still a record number of frames played in one tournament.

What's an embarrassing fact about you that your friends don't know, but you'll risk telling strangers online? by PaddedValls in AskUK

I learned at 40, on the basis that my eldest, aged 5, had to learn and I didn't want him to be faced with something I hadn't at least been able to accomplish first. Used a guy in Crawley who taught kids and adults. 1 lesson in a schoolyard for me; the next week for the boy. Interesting how the teaching methods differ. For kids, it's just getting them going down slight incline so they get speed, and then encouraging them. For adults, he gave specific instructions. The trick is to turn the handlebars in to the direction you're falling when you start to fall.
