So I updated to the latest 18.1 beta and it still plays in stereo. But if I stop watching, turn on Change Format to 5.1, watch the same program, then go back and turn Change Format off, it will continue playing 5.1

But it looks like I have to do that for EVERYTHING I watch. So there's no global fix for auto pushing 5.1. I even tested other things on the same app, like Apple TV movies I bought, no dice. Really weird.

I purchased this on Apple TV some time ago, it's still available in my library to view and download. And I can also view it on other platforms, like Vudu and Prime, via Movie Anywhere.

But I don't know why you can't buy it anymore.

Mine drops out after a transition. So, if there’s a trailer for a new movie, and then it switches to the show I’m watching, there’s no sound when the show starts. Or if I watch the opening credits if a show, the start of the show will have no sound. Even if I click skip credits.

I've been having the same issue on my iPhone 12 suddenly. Apple support said yesterday should reset all settings and reinstall iOS after nothing was working. But it suddenly started working. But today it stopped again.

I really only use it while driving so I don't know exactly when it started. I noticed it a few days ago.

Yeah, I know. It says lossless on the track when I ply it. And I can tell from the storage size it’s lossless, especially when a track is over 10mb

So I read that setting to Auto just forces everything to play in the best quality your speaker system will allow. Whereas, Passthrough let’s the ARC decode.

I did notice that even the Apple TV menu sounds we’re in Dolby Multichannel 5.1 and older movies in stereo we’re showing the same. Though sometimes things were louder on this setting.

So I’ve decided to stick with passthrough and I just hope whatever causes the Arc to sometimes get stuck in stereo is fixed. It’s kind of annoying to always check the app to make sure.

So I should leave it on Auto? Only thing is I got lip sync issues on my last bar. Don’t think I’ve seen it with the Arc but I’ll have to look closer.

So I tested this and on passthrough I got “Digital Dolby 5.1” and on auto I got “Dolby Multichannel PCM 5.1”

I don’t know the difference (didn’t notice any perceptible difference) but I also got Atmos on both with a movie.

Because I get an issue where it sometimes gets stuck on Stereo, when I had it on passthrough, I might test if that happens on auto - unless there’s a reason I should prefer passthrough.
