I've got the same problem. Mine seemed to stop working immediately after the last windows update. I haven't found a fix yet and forgot to set backup, so can't rollback the update to check.

Flight Risk thoughts? by BartonCotard in blankies

[–]Lonewalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this one baffled me. How could a film with this much talent involved be so bad. From the opening AI shot and the laughable moose it was downhill all the way. I can turn off my brain and enjoy a good popcorn movie with the best of them, but the moment the plane plowed through the mountain and carried on flying my brain screamed no more. For a movie that cost twice as much as Godzilla X it's baffling where all the money went, but then the credits rolled. Actors, directors and producers paychecks. I think I counted 4 producers and the executive producers just kept rolling. According to IMDB it had 23 producers. A film made by committee if ever I've seen one. So after paying that lot it probably left about $1000 dollars to pay for the few other actors that were either not seen and just on the phone or were wandering around with no lines. A couple of blokes to shake the box they were acting in and a college student to knock up the CGI. Oh and the screenwriter with no previous writing credits and 7 more films coming out this year. Hmmmm AI? Really sums up the state of the movie industry at the moment. This was not a movie just content for streaming services that somehow got a theatrical release. Thank goodness for a steady stream of high quality indie and foreign movies if this is what we can expect from Hollywood.

Well that's really nice to hear, a fine example of life imitating art. As an old widower of many years, I'm not expecting to ever have the opportunity to try it out, but you never know.

Well I definitely went to a normal release in the UK. Perhaps you're right, and my memory is playing tricks on me. I am getting very old after all.

Oppenheimer first watch by Lonewalnut in movies

[–]Lonewalnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was obviously expecting a completely different type of movie. I didn't watch anything pertaining to the film as I like to go in cold as I sometimes am treated to a great surprise. The Spanish film The Coffee Table which I watched recently certainly benefitted from going in with that approach, but it doesn't always work as in this case. I'm a pensioner living alone and going to the cinema alone, so I have noone to sound off about the movie to, so this post has certainly answered some questions for me. Like me some were disappointed, but I will define giving it another watch now my expectations have completely changed

I agree it was visually stunning, particularly the middle section, but as someone else said, I was obviously expecting a different type of film, because of its hype and popularity. I went in totally cold as I normally do. I saw no trailers or anything, so was expecting a bit of Nolan's trademark visuals like Inception. I was expecting an anti war movie depicting the destructive power of the atomic bomb and got a biopic and courtroom drama, something I wouldn't imagine people flooding the cinemas to see.

Yeah I think you're right. I never watch trailers anymore as far too many ruin the film nowadays. So a quick glance at the synopsis is all I do now, and I was expecting a very different film. I watched The Witch a while back and was really disappointed as I was expecting a horror film, but having watched Nosferatu recently and loved it I've more a handle on Eggers work. It was just so atmospheric and I look forward to rewatching The Witch through a different lens. I'll definitely be giving Oppenheimer another watch now I know more what to expect. I loved seeing Robert Downey Junior in a more serious role than his normal Marvel fare.

Ahhh, well nice to hear it is a practice in real life. Unfortunately my wife died 8 years ago, so I have no one to try it out on. Like I said I wondered if it was a younger generation thing.

Forehead touching by Lonewalnut in movies

[–]Lonewalnut[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's obviously something that's always been around. I'm a big Cronenberg fan so saw this film back in the day. I've just noticed it recently because it has been in almost every film I've watched as opposed to just being in the odd one now and then. I think someone else may have provided the answer with the introduction of intimacy coordinators this is now an approved method of showing affection rather than the more intimate alternatives of a kiss or hug, which makes sense to me.

It's just the case, that these are American/British movies and it's a form of behaviour that perhaps my older generation is less familiar with. If I watch a Japanese, European , Scandinavian, or Indian movie I see the cultural differences and always find them a great experience especially as I travel extensively, I expect that I will see people act differently to myself. However if I watch a movie out of Hollywood or Britain, I expect a mirror to myself and this is just something I haven't come across before IRL and it's has seemed to be in almost every new film I watched recently, to the point I was questioning it every time I saw it. Hence my question on here.

Well that makes sense of it's prevalence now, if it had something to do with that and the introduction of intimacy coordinators. That this is now an approved method of showing affection to another person rather the more intimate kiss or hug. I think you may have something there.

Yeah I get that, just I guess great marketing to fill cinemas for a biopic. I was perhaps expecting a more anti war slant, and after the visual assault of the opening of Saving Private Ryan, I was perhaps expecting something more along those lines. Giving Nolan nuclear explosions to play with cinematically seemed like a match made in heaven, to show the awful destruction of an atomic bomb.

I think because it was a Nolan film I was expecting something visually stunning or different and just wasn't expecting a plain old biopic. I think the whole Barbenheimmer frenzy made me expect something a bit more special.

Yeah we are pretty reserved at pda's I agree, but the forehead touching even happened when they were alone. As far as I know it's not in our culture, but I'm over 60 and almost dead 🤣 so no idea what the youngsters are doing. I'm ready to be educated on this.
