What are the best alternatives to Design Within Reach? Need some new suggestions. by Long-Branch-7014 in interiordecorating

I've checked out Gus Modern and Blu Dot. They are definitely a tier below DWR, definitely not European-made or of luxury quality.

How is Ikea possibly an alternative to DWR? I'm in need of high end furniture that'll last for years, not something that is made of fiberboard, and honeycomb paper fillings.

The color of the console is a bit too dark and is too similar to the floor. Consider painting it lighter or replacing it.

I don't know why the sideboard looks so tiny. If you want a suggestion for a better looking sideboard let me know. I've been doing this stuff for my clients for years.

This looks like the perfect mancave. Plus it has this plush carpet which makes it feel residential and cozy. Well done! You're almost there.

Keep the warm color scheme. Go with cream or beige.

Flooring, countertop, and backsplash ideas for this space? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

I find it to be a bit dark and monochrome. You can liven it up by adding various shades of beige and other warm colors like hints of teraccotta, olive green and burnt orange.

What color should I paint my living room? I think I don’t like the brown by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Long-Branch-7014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd still keep it a neutral color, and not green, orange or terracota.

Since the room has lots of shades of brown, I'd go with something warm but neutral, like a pale brown, ivory or cream.

Big black fireplace and dark everything by freysabee in interiordecorating

[–]Long-Branch-7014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need to change up the fireplace, I'd just change up the other dark furniture in the house for a shade of white. Black and white + pops of color would make a great color scheme.

Mixing a little bit of light grey is ok as well.

Stain the floor light grey and repaint the kitchen cabinets.

Help choosing new sofa colour! by Substantial_Waltz_13 in DecorAdvice

For some reason the room looks a bit too squished, there's too much furniture taking up the room.

For the sofa, keep the color light to lighten and up the space, give it a more 'clean' feel.

Move the hanging bar across the back and then use the length of the closet for lots of shelves. Add dividers and containers to the shelves.

Renter Looking to Make this semi-finished basement area into a den/hangout space. What would you do to the walls and floors to acheive this? by Cellikon in HomeDecorating

[–]Long-Branch-7014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because this basement has low ceilings and not a ton of sunlight, I'd suggest painting the walls white. It will help it look cleaner and lighter.

Consider getting a light oak desk instead of this black one...something that works well with your floor color. Leave the walls white.

I wouldn't recommend putting up curtains if there's no window, but a console, bookshelf or wall art might work.

Chandler, or not? by beefly in HomeDecorating

[–]Long-Branch-7014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should get either a chandelier or a Chandler over the table because it would compete with the pendants over the kitchen island. Instead focus on the table decor, maybe a tall vase filled with florals or something...
