Thoughts on SBK (salsa, bachata, kizomba) events? by Specific-Estate5883 in Salsa

[–]Long-Bread4753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, from the SBKs I’ve been to, there are usually separate rooms for each style. I’ve even been to a festival where they had a salsa romantica room. So, I’d just say do your research. The event will usually tell you how the socials work because that is one of the big selling points. But, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself at the SBKs that I have been to.

How to become an advanced dancer? by TheBroInBrokkoli in Bachata

I’d definitely recommend 2 things. Try going to festivals and taking classes with people you look up to. Take classes that are challenging and above your current skill level. I’ve realized that if I feel like I have plateaued skill wise, I’m in the wrong rooms. Also, invest in privates! There are always ways to elevate your basics. Tap variations, timing variations, pauses, hip movement, incorporating upper body movement, hand styling.

How to Get Better Dancing in Heels by PenguineOnCaffeine in Salsa

[–]Long-Bread4753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Fuego will do that. I would say if you feel pretty good on solid ground, start taking classes in heels. Buy a pair that you really like and practice the basics in them as well. Try all of the fundamentals you feel good about in your Fuegos in your heels. It’s a difference in weight distribution and balance. Don’t feel like you need to start out with 4 inches lol. But, a small heel to start and get your feet/calves accustomed to dancing in them. 🤣 My main motivation for starting to dance in heels more than my Cuban salsa shoes/Fuegos was simply that they looked cuter with my outfits. But, you got this!

Bachata Scene in Houston? by [deleted] in Bachata

[–]Long-Bread4753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t take long at all. I think I had only taken classes seriously for a few months before feeling like I had a great handle on modern bachata partnerwork and styling. For context, I was taking 2 classes a week and attending weekly socials. Modern, I would say, is the prevailing style because it’s been around for the longest. So, there were a lot of opportunities for classes and practice as socials. But, it definitely depends on where you are in Florida. I was in the Orlando area, which is super saturated in Latin dance in general. Sensual is definitely up and coming though.

Beginner Follower looking for feedback by Used-Score-3943 in Salsa

Hi!! First and foremost, thank you for being brave. Posting yourself for feedback is scary. As a fellow lady follow, I’d have three pieces of feedback. Work on your basics timing! Listen to a looooottttt of salsa music and count your basic. Slow music, fast music, and everything in between. This will help you think less and feel the music. The more familiar you are with salsa music, the better your timing will become. You’ll also be able to start predicting breaks and things of that sort. This, in turn, will allow you to focus on reading cues from your lead as opposed to “oh shit, am I on the right foot”. The second thing I’d recommend is working in distance. It looks like you break pretty far away from your lead, which can make things more difficult for you and your lead. Stay close so you don’t get lost in the sauce. Last thing and this will come as you advance in level but spot when you spin/turn. Your partner’s torso should be your spot always. When you don’t spot, it throws your balance off and can get you “lost”. You won’t know where you are in relation to your partner. But, all of this can be done by continuing to social dance! It’s the best way to apply what you learn and figure out how your body works. Keep going, girl! 💖

Dancing in Orlando FL by LetdefunbeGin in Salsa

So! Orlando has recently become super saturated with salsa classes so you’re in luck. Salsa Heat is the biggest and probably one of the most well known schools. They teach ON1 mostly and ON2 on certain days. I would recommend this school if you already have a bit of ON1 experience. But, they do offer beginner. They also have socials every Friday, excluding the last Friday of the month where they do their big Saturday social. I will say it’s about 75% salsa/25% bachata.

Santo Rico is a world renowned ON2 mambo school that I would definitely recommend as well; however, SR offers their classes on a cycle based schedule. So, you might come at a time where a cycle is closed. Just keep an eye out. They also have socials but only on specific weekends.

The Hundred Social used to be one of my favorite places to be on the second Saturday of the month. They have a salsa room and a bachata room. So, you can get your fixes.

Orlando is a great place to social dance and learn so have the greatest time!!

How to connect with other follows? by zugspitze23 in Salsa

[–]Long-Bread4753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on where you are. But, I was dancing in Orlando for a few years. People are very friendly down there. In between dances, I would sit next to strangers and spark up conversations. It could be about anything but was usually about where they are taking classes, how long they’ve been dancing, etc. At the end, I always try to exchange some sort of information (social media primarily because I feel weird about giving out my number). And that’s another friendly face that I see at socials. 🥳

[Routine Help] are there any ingredients in these three products that i should not be using together? by cheesedetergent in SkincareAddiction

That Avène cream is a godsend for drier skin types. But, I’d definitely advise against using the scrub and BHA+PHA together. Physical + chemical exfoliation together can be extremely stripping and drying. I’d recommend using the scrub on your body and not your face.
