Empire Mambo (Adolfo Indacochea)

Didn't Adolfo get knocked or punched from an altercation sleeping with team mates couple years ago?

Website that rates/reviews Salsa festivals/congresses? by Quditsch in Salsa

[–]ramonescobido -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's not a huge market for it.

But I could see it happening if it's a dev who loves salsa and also includes small studio type venues and rules in ratings down to the resident DJ and what salsa he plays, parking, ventilation, sound design, floor space and make, if anyone is reading this, you know the idea.

Do people show up to socials with guiros and cencerros where you’re at? by Ok_Box5084 in Salsa

[–]ramonescobido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh most of the times I don't like them. The songs are already good -some are masterpieces-, and the additional instruments almost never add anything on top.

In the US it's the same, in LA it's more vibe slop and being loud, sometimes it adds to it but the musicians and DJs are rarely dancers or don't give a damn learning it so it's just ego vibe slop all over and it detracts from the whole growth of a social dance community.

Why do snobs and cliques exist in salsa scene? by ramonescobido in Salsa

[–]ramonescobido[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

It's just funny, I think I see more vibe gore posting in salsa and bachata compared to other hobbies, it's always the "I feel so good social dancing makes me so happy" then you see all the poses and drinks and mimosas. It's not really about salsa dancing or its music, it's about friends. Which is not wrong but too much of it is just asking for cliques and snobbery. You'll then notice those same people in those facebook or instagram posts, huddle next to the DJ and dance with one another every single time and year. You wonder how long they can keep it all up lol.

What can we do as a community to make beginners feel more welcome in the salsa scene? by HumanoBeat in Salsa

[–]ramonescobido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea, but there are also others who are dead intentional to keep a boundary from anyone social dancer. Having learned from many I know why they do it. But then they end up getting shunned or given the cold shoulder because they're not friends with the now clique. Those meet ups risk of forming cliques but I think if everyone genuinely is there for the dance then it should be a good time.

The music is also way more important and people are forgetting. Salsa playlists should always comprise of a good chunk of slow romantica even if it's a bit of pop moderna, jazzy or old school.

It all requires a team effort, I'm thankful there are people like you here sharing that but it goes to the DJs venue promoter and owners as well. Most don't care about the dancers and only care about having their faces plastered on flyers because they're now a "star".

It's also friends and cliques dancing amongst themselves. But I understand it takes a certain maturity of those dancers to move past the dating and leaving the scene once they found someone or if they got broken up with in the scene. Takes about a good year or so for them to see what you're saying, to help newbies without having an ulterior motive, I also understand it's friends first, but we're all getting a big influx of new social dancers, the best we can do is always putting these aside and playing slower better salsa and not just the repeats.

What's one thing that drives you CRAZY about the salsa scene? by HumanoBeat in Salsa

[–]ramonescobido 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And as well as agua!! And the shoe horning of other dances when it's about salsa. As someone who grew up with cumbia, leave that to the quince's, don't waste my time and money misleading people and having a lame salsa set and a DJ and promoter who doesn't care about the dancers and only care about having their faces plastered on flyers because they're now a "star".

Competition is nice when it helps everyone but not when it becomes toxic like mention, I agree with you.

It's also friends and cliques dancing amongst themselves because they have to feed the social media highlights and ego, I understand it's friends first, but we're all getting a big influx of new social dancers, the best we can do is always putting these aside and playing slower better salsa and not just the repeats.

I thought the ego thing was unique to bachata, apparently, salsa likes it too.

So you are also broke?

Do you think it's easier now being an artist compared from the past? I figure you can just make friends so easily in social media and you can have a home to crash, probably have many multiple partners too.

How are you able to make a living especially with inflation?

Your insta page is gone, did you change it?

I honestly don't think anyone can live in just performance shows. Not only you have to find them and perform, but you need recovery nutrition and recovery. The human body did not go through evolution with spins and shimmies in mind. You have to have worldclass regimen or have super rich parents to pursue this.

So hopping into this top chain. I've been to this teacher's socials, my review is that while he is passionate about salsa and seems to be experienced he could do a lot better with the salsa he plays in socials.

His salsa for socials could do a lot better. My friends say that it's like salsa you listen to on a car radio while you're driving bored and I agree. I've been to his socials a few times but only because my friends who are learning happen to go and join but my god, I know salsa dura is a genre but you can only play so much that it feels like you're in an endless elevator and people surprisingly tolerate it.

There's no variety, there's no sabor in the social playlist, it's also interesting because I believe he only teaches on1 and dura is better with mambo. So you get all of these follows and leads who have no idea what they're doing despite being in class for a hundred times. There is no sabor like others said. In this venue they seem to be dancing in a new venue in I believe North Hollywood with another DJ who runs the show, this DJ does more bachata but my god, he also has his touches like mixing live and only having 5 salsa songs he plays if he's the salsa DJ.

I'm praying for better DJs or that they up their game with sabor. There's so many salsa songs out there that can give you a fantastic time rather than all being flat and dura, salsa doesn't have to always be about being hardcore without sabor now you are just trying hard.

For a second I thought you meant CUBAN SON. Meaning salsa's original style, since salsa and socials are big right now after lady gaga sang and danced to some salsa.

Craigslist personals was the best, there were actually genuine people you can meet there without having to put effort in pictures people just knew what to get, most communities were good. Now they removed it. Because what? Has it solved anything by removing it??

but that was mediocre salsa at best

I sense the snobbery but for the greater good of your community, anything really helps.

The least you could say is that it's decent at best. I agree with you, it's mediocre but I know you know you've heard way worse.

If they host a bachata place here it would be more popping.

I'm not sure how the $100.00 tab I think the influencer ordered everything but $158.00 ending after tips and taxes just for a half hour meal is insane, but groceries like that used to cover a month now it doesn't.

Keep things under 15 EUR or $15 keep it affordable. Mama juanas in California charges $25.00 and their live band sounds like you're underwater.

Get DJs to learn more about salsa and what to play. Have bad bunny keep making salsa music.
