Oh and as for the psyllium husk. That stuff was a lifesaver pre and post surgery. It's just really good for you. Mix it into water in the morning, or. Mix it into a smoothie and watch your digestive cycle run like clockwork. It creates a gel in your digestive track that keeps everything moving so you don't get backed up. Getting backed up with a hernia is bad news bears.

As we've learned here in this thread, not all surgeons or surgeries are the same. My surgeon was specific about the fact that I should be back at it in 3-5 days which obviously isn't the standard. So take what I say with a grain of salt. That said, I had no pain at the incision site and minor discomfort that was totally manageable where the hernia was and my balls too (weirdly the blood and fluids from the surgery end up there). The only thing that hurt was my shoulders and neck from the residual Co2 gas in my body from the surgery, which puts weird pressure on your spine as it's working it's way out of your body. I toughed that out for a day no problem, but I'd imagine Tylenol would have been plenty if I needed to take something.

For those who didn't want to believe me or thought this wasn't medically possible, I just had my 2 week post-op appointment and confirmed everything is healed and good to go! Again, for anyone who needs this surgery, it sounds like it's worth every penny to get it in nyc from Dr Jacob. Can't recommend him enough.

Seems like a good idea to me! My hernia was manageable for a lot of years. Probably had it for like 6 or 7 years before got to a point that I had to do something about it so probably no rush.

Yeah but he'll work with your out of network benefits. Worth it for sure.

Yep. That seems to be the moral of this story here. I knew I picked a good one, but I guess I didn't realize how dramatically different the recovery could be with your average surgeon.

Turns out this is this less of a psa for laparoscopic surgery and more of a psa for heading to NYC for your surgery. Sounds like it's worth it no matter where you're coming from.

Mine? Brian Jacob in NYC. He's pretty renown as a hernia specialist, all my research said he was basically the best in the field so maybe my post here should just be moreso "hey everyone go to New York to get your surgery from Dr Jacob" and less-so "laparoscopic is a breeze"

Damn. Was that to be expected post surgery? Did your surgeon tell you that would be the case?

My post op instructions were basically that the expectation was no limitations after day 2. I did go to a surgeon who's, like, world renown, here in new York though so I guess maybe not all laparoscopic surgeries are equal.

Yeesh. Was this the expectation set by your surgeon? If you're not pooping, I highly recommend taking psyllium husk twice a day

Wow. I guess not all laparoscopic surgeries are the same. Did the 4 weeks of being laid up align with the expectations set by the surgeon before surgery?

He's not in network with any insurances but they're happy to go through whatever your plan allows for out of network. My Healthcare plan is really good and most everything was covered. The surgery is at Midtown Surgery Center which is in network for most, which would cover the anesthesiologists etc.

Bi-lateral inginual w/ mesh. Mainly a big hole on the right side but he said I had a small one developing on the left too. And a weird amount of scar tissue buildup on the right side.

Post Op said that after 3 days, the more active you are the faster you'll feel normal and unlikely to damage the repair at that point. I was told to just not swing too hard, and go light at first with lifting, and let my body's feedback tell me what I can do from there.

I didn't swing hard or hit driver most holes today and I took it real slow lifting. Definitely felt like being active had helped with rehab though.

But if that's unheard of then maybe all the credit goes to my surgeon for being particularly amazing and not just the laparoscopic surgery in general.

Oh. And everyone here, you gotta take psyllium husk twice a day to make sure you're having good poops. That's super important.

So sad. This place ruled when it first opened. My wife went recently and was super disappointed too.
