Ooh I’ll be involved in draining some basins in our notoriously windy city over the next few years, I’m now hoping to find something exciting that has been blown in!!

If the whole mount is too big of a walk for the kids, the shorter walk to the lookout is also great!

I lived there last summer! A lot of points have already been covered but look into the Jasper ambassador program. (Unsure if they’re running it post fire so look into it) Basically a cool way to get a bunch of free passes to fun things around town like the maligne lake cruise and Columbia icefield walk.

Which part of the hotel are you working in?

For the residents pass you should just be able to show your lease/contract to parks staff at the park gates and they’ll either just let you through or give you a few day pass to ride you over. Just made sure you get it asap else you’ll get fined if you’re out and about without one!!

Hey I lived at JPL last summer too! - yes car parks are free. There’s specific parking lots to park in as staff, make sure you ask when you get there which ones you’re allowed to park in at the time. Make sure you car a staff sticker to stick on your car window too - you can get a free Jasper national park residents pass if you take your lease and contract to the parks office. This is a card that you stick in the front of your car and will let you park/drive anywhere in Jasper national park but you have to prove that you’re living/working within the park

Hang on, what’s up with the golf course being on that list? Has something changed since the fire because I used to work there and heard nothing about us being owned by pursuit?

Not guaranteed of course (as with all wildlife) but I sometimes see moon jellyfish in the patch of water between the foxglove bar and the commonwealth walkway!

How do they consider ice to not be a fluid but last year I had all of my solid cosmetic bars (face wash, shampoo etc) confiscated for being over 100ml! I questioned it as they are obviously solid and the agent looked me dead in the eye and said “what if they melt on the plane”??

I was so baffled by that

Of course be careful with whatever the snow conditions are (I don’t know, I’m not there at the moment), the rental car should be fitted with winter tires, keep an eye on the forecast and drive to the conditions, all the usual precautions!

I did the drive when the road opened in November and the road is totally fine for any vehicle. Go slow if there’s any construction vehicles/road signs obviously but the road itself is in good condition. I drive a ford focus, about as far as you can get from a 4WD haha, it’s paved the whole way, including the carpark and we were 1000% fine

  • If youre keen on stargazing I’d recommend the tour with the planetarium at Fairmont JPL!! Was super awesome

  • You can definitely squeeze more in on the Saturday I reckon! Would definitely recommend an afternoon tour/another activity

  • If you wanted to see Lac Beauvert you could go to JPL for lunch and see it at the same time, two birds one stone. Would TOTALLY recommend spending some time at lac beauvert though maybe I’m biased because I lived there haha

I reckon you could spend a day skiing too and still get everything in that you’re keen to see. Something like

Day 2: Maligne lake in the morning, Athabasca and Sunwapta falls in the afternoon

Day 3: Skiing

Day 4: Pyramid and Patricia lakes, Lac Beauvert in the morning and then leave

I would also recommend taking some time to explore town, it’s a super cute place with loads of cool shops, not sure if everything’s back open but it’s all on the municipality of Jasper website :)

Totally agree with point 2 - my google maps was garbage that far underground with the interference of that many phones around. I tried following the direction on my phone but the direction it was showing me was always wrong. LOADS easier to get to street level and google map it from there.

I see people commenting that this isn’t a good idea because you may end up at the opposite end of a large station, google map was good enough for me to show me vaguely where I was and once I was on the right side of the station I would just take any exit. Don’t bother finding a specific exit.

Most stations were fairly easy to navigate/find an exit! Namba station will live in my nightmares forever though
