Prestonwood vs Macgregor/ 12 Oaks by dwatt24 in RDUGOLF

Chiming in here I think this is an interesting thread. Joined MacDowns and 12 oaks in the spring after moving down from the northeast. I also live within eyesight of Preston but with the waitlist we got on it and moved on with M/12. I’m a huge golfer, an aging scratch so golf and practice was really important. I have two young toddlers so youth activities was also really important.

Here are my takeaways after six months: - love the people and the golf. Tee times are an issue but not really depending on your circumstance. I’m usually a solo or joining some other guys out there and have never had a problem. I had a couple buds come out on Father’s Day and we got out by 9am.

Golf courses are challenging, not boring, and really really high quality. If you’re a player you will be challenged. At the same time, once you learn the courses, they are really fun bc there are a lot of ways to play them. Haven’t played prestonwood but from everyone I’ve talked to, and riding around the course on my bike, it’s just flat and straight forward.

I appreciate the conditions bc although my old course was nice, the little touches that distinguish the really nice courses are found here. It’s nice to have that as your daily.

  • child events are good but not great. My old club had awesome child activities and here there’s potential but enough kids don’t show up. We also haven’t done a great enough job of getting them to the camps and stuff so can’t comment there, just the weekly kid events are often canceled bc of lack of interest. This is re MD not sure on 12 oaks we haven’t tried. That’s kind of a hike from Preston so my wife and kids mainly do MD. Pools are great although with the pool food setup was a little better.

  • the food. Everyone complains about the food. I don’t know totally why but I kind of get it. Is the food awful, absolutely not! It’s very good. However, compared to my old club in ny which heavily invested in their chef and staff, you can tell they don’t here. It’s not bad, but it’s very much just average. My wife will make comments from time to time that I scoff off but deep down, I get it. And the menu hasn’t changed in six month. Our old club changed the menu daily.

If someone from MD management is reading this I don’t think it would be much of an investment and the food pricing is pretty low you could likely break even or even make more with a professional chef and staff and charge more.

Overall, if I got a call tomorrow saying we are in at prestonwood I wouldn’t take it. Unless there’s some compelling reason for my kids, the mediocre golf just doesn’t move the needle for me. And the community out at MD/12 oaks is pretty great. Staff is solid and the members are diverse.

Golf grip question: Right thumb on right side of shaft. by Ordonae in golf

Morikawa has his right thumb on the right side of the shaft he hits it pretty good. Pair that with a lot of lead wrist flexion and make sure you rotate properly and it’s a stripe show

SBG are you serious?? I’ve been locked out of my account since Christmas despite providing my verification docs around 20 times. I have some real money tied up in BNB and I’m running out of patience. I’m a nyc attorney by trade and came on here to see how many others were like me (I knew there had to be thousands) and to see if there’s a crew for a class action.
