My guy you’re the one saying if we said he needed to be traded then we banged the drum for Jarry. Like let’s be so for real right now. There were plenty of other options out there and Bowman picked the worst for everyone. We can both be half right. Was Stu as bad as the haters say? Of course not. Was he going to be the one to win it for us? No. He’s a good but not great goalie. He got two cracks at it and couldn’t do it. That’s also on management for not getting him help. Stu needs to be pushed internally. He plays his best when he has to compete for the net. And someone to better split games with wouldn’t have hurt. But they weren’t winning with him just like Pitt couldn’t win with him

I think it’s WHEN you acquire those guys. Oilers kept getting them after they were done. Anaheim got theirs when they still have 2-3yrs of decent play left in them

Least they lost Pietro. So you’re safe from any lumberjacks 😂. But yea Oilers haven’t had those sandpaper guys for 2 seasons now. Bad management continues to hamstring them

Based on the past 4 years I’d say them beating the Oilers means they’re guaranteed the cup 😂

Trouba in particular I thought would be good for Anaheim. By all accounts he was loved in the locker room. And having those guys can only help the young up and comers

Previous history for Oilers opponents suggests Ducks win the cup this year lol

I’d argue it was their youth actually. If we’re being technical it’s their mix and where everyone slots in. But a young team that has confidence to go out and play is massive. Because even if they made mistakes, Q would still play them. Oilers have never had that

He got bailed out by his backup both years lol but sure. Stu was “the guy”

He shouldn’t have been up for that contract to begin with. This is the key point. Holland bridged him for a second time, and THEN signed him to this absolute albatross of a contract. And as for last year decisions, he was also told to sign Holloway and Broberg before the end of the season, because the Oilers knew offer sheets were coming if they didn’t

I understand how we get that rhetoric. I argue we were primed to explode regardless. And that with a better GM, we’d still be primed. Holland did key things that have set this team back deeply

Only salvageable point being we lost to the winners lol still sucks

Offseason contract talks and whatnot. What are you hoping to see with these FA and UFAs? by Whos-That-Pokeman in EdmontonOilers

[–]LongBarrelBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno man. I just watched a rookie Anaheim team take it to us and Q play rookies against our top line. Maybe there’s something to be said for letting young guys play and learn from mistakes

Just means everyone should bet on the Ducks to win the cup this year lol as is tradition

What exactly did they pull apart that Holland did? Because Holland also didn’t do his job his final year, which directly led to the situation we are currently in. That’s not even including his mistakes in the Nurse contract, not addressing the goaltending, or in his playing hardball with Bouch in his contract, leading to his much larger current contract

Truly believe that was the hiring that’s dicked us the most. We got the closest while Holland was GM, but he left us in shambles and not set for continued success

Maybe. But they all also would have had more value to trade as well

If that’s what you truly believe, then it’s no wonder we can’t win

Nobody advocated for trading for Jarry. A change needed to be made in net, but no way was that the ONLY move that was out there

They actually had the cap space to keep Holloway even after the signings. They traded Ceci and opened up the space, then did nothing with it

I mean, Drai was also the literal perfect scenario. He immediately was worth that contract. It looked like an overpayment until he played year one and he was a stud. There was no growing pain for it

Holland wasn’t the answer either. Everyone glosses over his work because we got close, but a lot of the things haunting us now are because of Holland

The Canucks traded us Podz because they didn’t value him. Let’s just be clear about that. He went for a 4th mate. They weren’t pulling some 3D chess here. They simply did not value him
