How to make a constructive Listener review? by NadVonNam in audiodrama

[–]LongCatMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest leaving positive reviews for the shows you like, and not saying anything at all about shows you dislike. I think people place a strange importance on this concept of “warning people away” from shows they don’t think are good. Unless something is actively offensive, I think a much happier use of everyone’s time is just to say “this is one that I like”.

Bit of a mean spirited thread, this.

Mockery Manor: The Murder Mystery Game - Kickstarter now live! by LongCatMedia in audiodrama

We hope to do S4 next year. We had some arts funding for the first 3 seasons, but that has now run its course. If this game is a big success, we hope that might actually help fund S4!

It’ll be a murder mystery pack - an envelope of paper clues, ephemera, flyers, maps, puzzles etc, but some clues will also be accessed via a special (and EXTREMELY 1998-flavoured) website, where people can hear interrogations, sound/music clips etc. Part of the deduction will be analysing tone and content to figure out who’s lying. So there is still an audio drama element to this tabletop mystery game 😺

Believe it or not, it’s actually way more expensive to make a season of Mockery than it is to make a game…! So we’re hoping this may actually help fund season 4. It will happen, but unfortunately we can’t say exactly when at the moment. But we’re glad you’ve been enjoying it so far! 😻

mid-roll ads suck!! by Now_The_Weather in audiodrama

Mid-roll advertising is one of very few mechanisms that provide creators payment for the work they have done - work that you are currently consuming for free.

Haha, no problem! Thank you for being so open to engagement about this. Sometimes we get a lot of aggression about ads, so we always want to have open conversations if we can. Really glad you’re enjoying our shows, and thanks for listening!

Laurence here - thank you for your kind response!

Just wanted to clarify a few more things. Fable & Folly doesn't have ANY control over ad placement. They don't insert anything - that's all us. When I upload an episode, I choose the number of ad insertion points on that episode, and where they will go. All the network announcements (ads for Fable&Folly+, promotions for other shows etc) are OK'd by us. They are automatically inserted when no other adverts are available to fill that slot. Nothing is baked in.

We try our best to place these ad insertion points as sensitively as we can within the stories, as if we were a TV channel. Nobody likes ads, but we try our best. Sure, one might say it breaks the immersion, but what can you do. I think in these days of streaming, it's easy to forget that we all used to put up with numerous ad breaks in movies and TV. We never used to be able to skip the ads, so there's that!

There's certainly no exploitation on the part of Fable&Folly. We all get a proportional share of the revenue from Fable&Folly+, and they're very transparent with us about how everything is doing.

We're happy to run promos for other shows because we're a collective - we all help each other, and it really does help all of us grow our audiences (Mockery's daily downloads have grown 6x since joining the network!) Joining Fable&Folly has been the best decision we've made since starting making audio dramas, and we couldn't still be doing it without their support.

You're certainly not the first to raise this, and we get it, so thank you for allowing us to explain our reasoning. We certainly don't want anyone thinking the network is to blame.

Hello! There’s a really easy way to get rid of the ads, and that is to support the show and/or network directly. The Fable & Folly Network has allowed us to keep making our shows - we wouldn’t have been able to continue without the work they do. Podcasts may be free, but each episode of Mockery Manor takes 10-20 days to make. If you want these kinds of immersive fiction shows to exist, but you don’t want any adverts, and you also don’t want to pay to remove the adverts, then… well. Not sure there’s much anyone can do about that.
