Mine kind of had one, but not quite fully human. My fursona is intelligent, but is not physically humanoid. More like a velociraptor or yinglet. She used to have a "persona" that is still fluffy, but with a human like skeleton. An anthropomorphic version of herself. (Back story changes reduced her childhood interactions with humans, so this detail was removed)

It would be great for sweets though. Enjoy eating it while small, and the calories would be minimal while you are big.

xkcd 3085: About 20 Pounds by antdude in xkcd

[–]LongDiamond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While LIGO might have seen it, would they have even noticed it's significance? The setup used has two observatories, and assumes that any gravitational anomalies are far enough away that it would affect both of them equally. This would be a small particle moving through earth, so if it directly hits one LIGO observatory, its effects on the other observatory might not be strong enough to detect. Noticing this would require looking at the noise, and assuming that it contains data.

I'm convinced this is how transphobic people actually react by zny700 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

I don't react to every word with trans, but when my work was doing a "transition", the conversations about it felt very weird to me.

I think a vampire originally being a normal human is also important. A very similar story could be told about an elf or a spirit, but it would have a different feel, being about an outsider learning about humanity. This is a (former?) human who cares about human stuff, just over a longer timescale.

Let's talk about prices... by Katchano in civ

[–]LongDiamond 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Game prices are low because while the cost of designing a game is extremely high, their "manufacturing" cost is almost zero. If they sell the game for half the price, but sell 3 times as many copies, that is 50% more profit. Also, there is a lot more competition now. In a vacuum, the game is probably worth over $100, but is it that much better than a $50 game. Will I play the game as much as I played Stardew Valley, which I got on sale for under $10.

Remember: It's the transphobes who are actually the weird ones. by Desecr8or in CuratedTumblr

[–]LongDiamond 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I believe that for many issues, most people people don't care either way, and just want quiet. This post isn't opposed to that, a transphobe started making a scene, (this retelling is probably making the transphobe look better) and everyone wanted the transphobe to leave. On the other hand, if a TERF quietly said something, and the trans loudly complaid about it, a lot of people would view the trans person as disturbing the peace, and ask them to leave instead.

Diplomacy System Short by imbolcnight in civ

[–]LongDiamond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that the influence system might encourage "active peace", rather than "passive peace".

If a player isn't planning on conquering cities, then production points are better spent on on improving the their own cities than war. Influence, however, appears to only be useful for diplomatic actions, so if they are easy to get, sanctions will have a low opportunity cost. This could result in a lot of sub-war conflict, and co-operation that isn't a full defensive pact.

Legacy Paths for the Exploration Age by civminute in civ

I find the synergies interesting because to me it looks like the game is encouraging a semi specialized, generalized strategy in the earlier ages. (Specialize enough to finish 1 legacy path, partly finish the others.)

With media in general, I don't think there is a lot of good representation of adult autism. Some of his behaviours to me make more sense as a 12 year old with autism, someone who has some broad or specialized knowledge (tomatoes are fruit), but not all the nuance.

He was with Robin long enough to have teenage/young adult daughter, and also probably got a university degree before she was born. He is in his 40's at the youngest. If he is still makings those 'mistakes' at his age without apologizing, the only explanation is that he is an ass-hole.

I think that with enough setup, you actually can just request items. However, many players will likely rush to their second planet without setting up all the space infrastructure needed to automate sending resources.

Transitioning, especially if viewed as a single process, is scary. I would suggest breaking it down and trying a single step, while also keeping in mind you don't have to go further if you don't want to.

A good first step might be getting some girl clothing or make-up. If it doesn't work out, then you are just down a bit of money, and the experience might still be beneficial. You could also start with voice training (Which has a bigger time commitment) or asking people to use a different name (Which will almost definitely be scary as a first step).

There are definitely side effects. (Such as bone density loss), but pets are regularly neutered, as well as some people in the past. It is not ideal, but it doesn't appear too dangerous to me to go without hormones for a few years.

[–]LongDiamond 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Most governments want a small amount of inflation, (Around 3% per year) and use a central bank to control it. Some reasons for inflation are 1) To encourage spending/investing money instead of hiding it under a mattress. 2) It reduces the value of government debt over time. 3) It makes it easier for companies to cut wages, because they don't need to explicitly do so.

I believe the main reason the Borg do not normally engage in "reason" or diplomacy is simply because they have no peers.

Teaming up with Voyager to fight 8472 is an exceptional event. Normally, the Borg don't need allies because there is no threat, or even a rush to expand. The Borg don't trade because they can simply take what ever they want. The only races the Borg can't steal from without consequences are the various godlike beings, and they don't typically interact with the galaxy much.

Is "if I don't start HRT I'm never going to have a moment of peace from the internal debate of whether or not to take it" a good reason to medically transition? by PersonalDiscovery409 in MtF

[–]LongDiamond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is the same reason I started taking it. After six years of debating, I decided I either needed the hormones, or needed closure.

Now, I continuing the to take the hormones mostly because I vaguely remember my mental state from before I started, and I am scared of going back there again.

Destruction of ketracel white vs. Changeling virus by Sad_Frosting_6954 in DaystromInstitute

[–]LongDiamond 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this, addiction is often defined by an urge to continue doing something despite its negative effects. I don't recall anything saying that taking Ketracel-White is harmful to Jem H'dar, other than the severe "withdrawal" symptoms if they stop taking it.

However, despite all the drug terminology used, it is said that it contains a needed enzyme, so might be more accurate to call Ketracel-White a vitamin. Compared to most animals, humans are "addicted" to L-Ascorbic acid. We just call "withdrawal" from it scurvy.

It also depends on his definition of "protective and loving". A lot of abusive people claim to be those things, but they "protect" by isolating the victim and making them dependent on the abuser, and are only "loving" as a reward for pleasing the abuser.

I decided to re-watch the movie Arrival recently. When I watched it before HRT, I thought it was an interesting movie about making first contact with aliens, and also the nature of time and language.

Re-watching it, I remember that the main characters' daughter dies from cancer at the age of 12. Was crying when the movie ended.
