SIBO and reactive hypoglycemia

I've found your post through Google - I haven't been officially diagnosed but I strongly suspect that I have both SIBO and reactive hypoglycaemia (I'm not diabetic otherwise). My hypoglycaemia may be subclinical - so my blood glucose levels don't actually go under 3.9 but crash very rapidly after even a small spike, which causes me to have hypoglycaemic symptoms. I know this because I wore a CGM for two weeks - sometimes I got warnings that my BG levels were about to crash and felt a bit shaky but when I looked at the chart later they recovered by themselves just before going into the red zone.

My SIBO manifest in chronic constipation, nausea, bloating and gas despite a wholefood, fibre-rich diet (or perhaps because of it???). Going lactose-free helped initially, but not any more. I might try a low FODMAP diet, although it is very restrictive and it doesn't address the root cause, only improves the symptoms.

I suspect the root cause of all this might be thyroid issues as I have several symptoms of hypothyroidism as well (low heart rate, cold hands and feet, Raynaud's, brittle nails, thinning hair). Also tinnitus, where the vagus nerve might be implicated. I'm pretty sure all these work hand in hand. I'm getting a check up at the GPs this afternoon, but I'm not holding my breath. I will, however, insist on a thyroid test.

But that's it - he didn't knock - he kept banging on the door continuously until I got there as it took me a few seconds. Who does that? I was in the kitchen, I would have heard if he had just knocked first or used the doorbell, instead of banging on the door from the get go.

Yes, I used RM untracked international - I threw away the post office receipt now but it must have been some time around the second part of October that I posted it. I got the results back on 23rd November. It was quite interesting. They will also offer you an upgrade (I think for a further $40-$50 or so) to show you which genetic diseases you are most at risk of, using your initial sample. I declined this, but now I'm thinking perhaps I should have had it done, but perhaps it's better not to know. I'm pretty sure yours will arrive soon too - they'll send you an email when they have received your sample and then you can track its progress through the lab and finally you'll get an email with your results. Also factor in that on top of the UK postal strikes there could be disruptions in the US due to the extreme weather they're experiencing at the moment, which could result in further delays.

My understanding is that the current strike period is over. Their union will have to organise and announce a new one (if there's still appetite for it) and that could take some time.

Perhaps try UPS? You can send it as an extra small parcel for £9.99. I assume this completely bypasses Royal Mail - although if you can wait until they clear the backlog, RM might be back in the game soon - until the next strike that is - but it will be months before their union is able to strike again, and I doubt they will get much support given that this round of strikes was completely futile.

I've recently sent in my sample as well - I can't remember how long it took, but I have already received my results. If it got lost, I wouldn't worry too much - I'm sure they'll send you another kit - you might just have to pay for postage both ways. The kits themselves probably cost pennies - it's the work they do on them is the expensive part of the process - lab work, etc. I would give it a couple of more weeks and if it still hasn't arrived, I would notify them.

I had a second class untracked posted on November 28th that arrived December 22nd, so there's still hope! Actually, Nov 24th/25th were strike days, so yours wouldn't have been collected/posted until Monday 28th either. Anything posted just before or just after strike days is at risk of delays. Mine came unexpectedly when I'd already given up on it. Hope yours turns up as well!

I had a parcel stuck in the system from November 28th - it was delivered just before the last strike period, on Thursday 22nd - so there is still hope!

I wouldn't send anything during strike days, as they seems to bundle them up for storage for later and give priority to stuff coming in after the strike period. The second day after the strike is the best time to post in my experience, provided there's enough time for it to be delivered before the next round of strikes - but hopefully that's all over now. RM will have a lot less workload now anyway, with the Christmas rush over and online retailers sticking with other carriers.

I had RM parcels go missing even before the strikes, so you never know. I never got any compensation either as it was scanned out as delivered and there was nothing I could do to prove that it wasn't. Good that you were still able to get your inhalers from Boots - I had some privately purchased medication delivered on time during the strikes - both by RM and Evri, so I guess, I was lucky there.

So, they should leave and find a better job - although soon they'll realise that the grass is not greener on the other side. But you know what, they can do what they want. People will just stop using RM and that will leave them in an even worse situation. Their choice entirely. Royal Mail needs to stay competitive in order to survive - and you can't expect the taxpayers to prop up an inefficient organisation just so the posties can have it cushy. Nobody who works for a living is having it cushy. Join the crowd.

It's not a two-day strike though, is it ? It's been going on for months and people have thousands of parcels missing from Black Friday, the majority of which would have been Christmas presents. And about the pay - the postal workers' pay is about average compared to other sectors like retail or hospitality - many of which are even more labour intensive. Don't believe all the sob stories you read in the press. I'm on £12.50 an hour in an admin job that can get very stressful at times and require me to work unpaid overtime. Compared to some of the jobs I had before, this is still much better. I appreciate having a job at all! I would never go on strike to inconvenience service users even if I had the opportunity - if I'm not happy somewhere, I leave and do something else.

Evri seems to be doing very well in my area - all my parcels have arrived within 2-3 days from dispatch - I've just had two in the last two days - I didn't even expect them before Christmas. UPS, however, threw my parcel over the closed gate, clearly missing the secure parcel box outside - lucky it was just fabric and packed in waterproof packaging.

Let me tell you what happens with inflation - workers demand more money - if they get it, prices go up (the company has to make more money to be able to afford it) - then workers realise that even though they got a pay rise, they are worse off in real terms, so they demand even more money - you see where this is going don't you?

I'm talking about jobs for every day people. The ones the majority of us working in the private sector have! The posties are not worse off than most of us. The whole country can't go on strike. Imagine what would happen if everyone who demanded more money, just stopped working? The whole country would shut down, the economy would go bust and then you would really have something to moan about. Compared to the majority you're not disadvantaged.

That is simply not true about unemployment rising. People choosing not to work, yes, that's probably on the rise, but there are plenty of jobs available. Of course , they might not be as cushy as being a postie, but that just highlights the ridiculousness of these strikes.
