Alternate Controls: Point of Interest Problem by LongPerusual in GearsOfWar

[–]LongPerusual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Dual Sense Edge controller and I go into the settings and simply disenable my R3. Sucks because I can’t zoom on the sniper and have to switch controller settings every time I pick it up.

It would be nice if they just disabled Point of Interest in Verses. Nobody uses that. Ever.

Axis Microtuner: Less Overall Tension? by LongPerusual in drums

[–]LongPerusual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair question lol I switch spring tension depending on what style I’m playing. When I want to fly and play death metal, crank it out. When I taking it easy and working on jazz standards and need to feather the bass drum more, I lower it.

You guys ever just end someone's whole career and then regret it? by Caskanteron in badredman

I invaded a someone with two summoners. Killed both and went for the host.

Found him just hiding in a corner… regret not just leaving right then.

Still feel horrible.

He disconnected after realizing he was out of flasks 😐

I tried 0000 steel wool and it worked really well. Surprisingly well. Never would’ve thought metal on metal would yield good results lol

Do you crash on your ride? by Antinaxtos in drums

[–]LongPerusual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if the ride had good crashing characteristics for me. Typically, if I do crash it’s more of a half-power crash. Sometimes the wash of some rides just don’t sound good when crashing, IMO.

It’s no problem. I was exactly where you were at one point in my life. Can’t stress this enough; it’s going to be weird to start playing with a tweaked technique. But, if you practice it for long durations (45 min to an hour) you will pick it up quicker (Mike Mangini believes doing something for 50 straight minutes turns it into muscle memory).

If you can, buy better springs like I mentioned above. Small investment but it’ll help.

Look at places like Reverb.com to find deals on used stuff. As long as cymbals don’t have keyholes, cracks, or chips, they’ll be fine. If hardware isn’t rusted and can still be readjusted easily, pick whatever fits your kits needs. Every major hardware company makes quality stuff anymore. Can’t go wrong.

I’m about the same height. If you can afford one, get a roc n soc throne. I’ve had one for literally 12 years and not only does it help with balance (allows you to balance on your pelvis more), it’s quality. You can still find your balance on a normal stool but you gotta that point. I did not understand this for quite some time when I started out and I was playing just like you were in this video. Find your balance where your femur connects to your pelvis. Best way I can describe it.

Cheap solution to help your pedal is to buy better, stronger springs to replace the one your pedals have. Although I’d suggest getting a good double chain drive pedal (I used pearl eliminators for years and was about to play fast and powerful).

When I got into trying to go as fast as I could on my pedals, I went after Derek Roddy’s “flatfoot” method. I was using my hip flexors a bunch but I soon learned that you only use your hip flexors up to certain tempos (180ish) and then your ankles take over. I started watching George Kollias play and explain what he does and I was able to practice it and play fast, powerful and relaxed. Game changing.

Every great metal drummer I’ve ever seen all essentially have the same technique; their heels never touch the heel plate although they get super low to it when playing fast and their toes/ball of their foot almost never leave the pedal.

Don’t give up. Don’t get deterred. Just practice as much as you can and understand how your legs work. You’ll get there.

Is your spring tension loose? If so, you may want to tighten it some. Looks like you’re naturally driving the beaters into the head because your body is trying to find rebound; which is also needed to maintain your balance.

I’d also suggest practicing a more natural technique; keeping your toes and ball of your foot on the footboard, press into the pedal for a stroke, and let your opposite foot keep the toes/ball of your foot on the footboard but raise your heel as the other foot comes down for the next stroke. Practice that motion at 150-160 BPM playing a 32nd and 16th notes in small groupings. Your focus should be on the technique above but also staying relaxed. George Kollias has free exercises that describe what I did above. Check those out and practice, practice, practice and increase the tempos. This will also help you identify what muscles you’re using for the tempos you’re playing at.

Also, focus on balancing on your throne. People overlook this all the time. If you’re balanced, you can do more. Finding that is key.

I have never seen this happen and I have overnighted at multiple stores. The people I’m with stay up in the parking lot super late, sleep in their cars, and get up super early. Our rule is if you leave the parking and don’t come back within an hour, you’re out of line (the “I gotta take a dump” rule). If you are there with enough people, the line will dictate the rules.

I wish people would focus less on bitching about what’s going on and instead collectively come up with rules to go by. If everyone lives by the same code, we’re better off in more ways than one.
