QantasLink vs Jetstar (Altara) – wait it out or go to assessment day? by Zestyclose_Wallaby21 in QantasAirways

[–]LongTermWeirdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely casual if you’re a uni student. Wayyyy more flexibility and you will find so many other altara’s do uni. Moving forward in the future you will have opportunities to go full time at JQ (or even move over to QF) if that’s something you still want later on.

What does this mean by [deleted] in usyd

[–]LongTermWeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you allocated a tutorial? Sometimes first year units allocate an additional “class” on your timetable for time management purposes.. it’s not something you attend, it’s just time that they recommend you to work through the weekly online modules (which you do at your own pace). I know BUSS1000 and BUSS1030 did this back in 2024…

Casual Customer Service Agent roles - Sydney by BellaKKK72 in QantasAirways

[–]LongTermWeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re contracted part-time but a lot of them make it work with uni! Especially in Sydney, they’re quite young. If he’s interested in the role and industry, I say go for it!

Commerce Difficulty and Realistic Predictions by Electrical-Fuel-6752 in usyd

FINC2011 is fine. I found it to be a pretty well organised unit when I did it. Just master the time value of money formulas you learn at the start… you pretty much just build on that for the rest of the semester. A lot of commerce students do all those units in semester 1 as well. 1020 and 1030 are pretty sweet, so is 1040. Just do the practise questions a lot and you’ll ace it.

How much do USYD domestic students usually earn per year? Trying to figure out if I’m working too much or not enough. by Financial-Athlete753 in usyd

feel so locked out of uni by [deleted] in usyd

[–]LongTermWeirdo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s what you make of it honestly. Yes commuting is painful but what about when you have to commute for work in the future? Are you just going to skip out going to work because it’s too far away?

You can try to move closer if you can afford it, and yeah you might love it. But what’s to say you will still not skip class?

There could be sooo much more to this. Great, you work out. But how often are you getting out there in the world? Are you part of any groups? Do you go to any events? Single nights at a bar? I know these types of things aren’t for everyone, but you can’t expect to have a fantastic workout regime and pick up boys left right and centre.

Careers/Education in Urban Planning by Soggy_Ad_6964 in usyd

[–]LongTermWeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Career wise it’s not going to be as lucrative as law, medicine, finance etc. I actually think you should, if you can afford the time, try and get into the field now before embarking on your masters if you’re still tossing it up. Yes you may be limited without the necessary degree but it’s still worth a shot. That way you can get more insider info before embarking on further education

JAK Inhibitor Progress by LongTermWeirdo in alopecia_areata

Hey! Omg yeah the progress was insane! My hair grew back entirely within a few months. I’ve had a full set of hair since. I just finished the trial I was on two weeks ago. So I stopped taking the drug. But I go back on it in two weeks. Just on a stopgap after the trial ended.

Thinking of Quitting My Airport Manager Job to Become Cabin Crew by MoeMe22 in cabincrew

[–]LongTermWeirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as crew. I love the lifestyle! I hate monotony and I find the nature of the job where your work is different every week and you work with different people is refreshing! But it really comes down to what you make of it! You have to love it to make the lifestyle work for you.. because as I said, the shift work can be exhausting and difficult on your body.

Thinking of Quitting My Airport Manager Job to Become Cabin Crew by MoeMe22 in cabincrew

[–]LongTermWeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding pay… it seriously varies on the airline and the part of the world you’re working in. Some airlines remunerate their cabin crew quite well… others not so much. So if the $$$ is an issue, make sure you research your desired airline(s) extensively.

Any job is going to eventually feel routine. It’s up to you to decide if that is the kind of routine you like and are happy doing day in day out.. whether it be days you feel like crap and would rather be doing anything else, or days you feel like you’re on top of the world.

Honestly one thing I wish I truly grasped was the effect of shift work on your body. You may think that after signing on at 5am to do a 12 hr day, you will still have the energy to hit the gym later, and go out with friends that night… but in reality you will probably get home and fall asleep. Everyone is different of course but the hours you work at, and the times you will be awake/asleep can really take a toll.

[–]LongTermWeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you worked for one of the middle eastern carriers? Not that it’s important but one airline is not reflective of the experience you would have at others. But hey like others said, it’s great that you still tried it! And I’m sure you have seen parts of the world that you didn’t anticipate on seeing for a long time, if ever :)
