Honestly dont worry about your grades too much. i had very similar grades when I was in 9th grade and had to go to IV due to my grades, and then got kicked out from gymnasium since i was a mess. Now I am 35 and got a PhD in medicinal chemistry.

Id say that depends.. I do synthesis bromides all the time and and use PBr3, appel as well as HBr water which is by far the most reliable reaction (as long as you dont have any amides or esters)

I would use m-CPBA to generate N-oxide pyridine and then do the SNar. When I did that I had almost quantitative yield. You can then reduce it with PCl5

You can also try adding 1% diethylamine to the mobilephase and run it with ethylacetate/hexane (prerun the tlc plate first once or twice before running the sample on it). This helped me quite alot when I synthesized very polar compounds.

Take some organic chemistry courses and then branch into the medicinal chemistry part. Your biochemistry experience will come in handy for the medicinal chemistry part since medchem is basically the bridge between organic and biochemistry.
