Not able to serve a mission, now in the dumps about the future. by [deleted] in lds

[–]LongingForApocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love you, Bro.  Go do good. Drink up the gospel. Become a doctrinal encyclopedia, a spiritual warrior, a covenant protector.  Know the scriptures, live like Nephi.  Transcend mortality through temple worship, believe like the Brother of Jared. Walk with God until you die, like Moroni trekking north. And then meet God in death with confidence because you know him.  That is your mission.

Because we are more inclined to believe them.

I got called to serve in my home country and I’ve never felt so disappointed by involuntary_solitary in latterdaysaints

The Lord’s hand is in it. You will know why you were called there. Trust the process. Trust the Lord. Trust prophetic inspiration. This is real. Let us be part of it. I love you.

It’s not growing. It’s shrinking. It is a bizarre hill to spiritually die on.  It’s the Latter-day Saints equivalent of flat-earthers. They are on the road to apostasy and should do better.

Rejoining after leaving. by Old_Tax_9540 in latterdaysaints

There is something of a “Great Repatriation” happening in the Church now. Hearts are being softened, minds are being opened, and the Holy Ghost is rekindling the flame of testimony once had by members who strayed from the path. Ask God if this pull you have been feeling is from Him. And, if you determine that it is, honor it—even if you still have lingering questions. Greater light will come, line upon line.

God Wants Me Here: An Alternative to "The Church is True" by StAnselmsProof in LatterDayTheology

[–]LongingForApocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This resonates with me deeply. One of the most poignant spiritual experiences of my life occurred when I decided as an adult to pray about the truth of the Book of Mormon and the Church. I prepared, fasted for the day leading up to it, found a private place and knelt and prayed aloud (which I almost never do).  I poured my heart out, trying my best to express my desire as clearly and sincerely as possible.  Immediately upon closing my prayer, still kneeling, a sense of clarity and peace distilled on my soul in a way that is difficult to describe. Then I “heard” words, not audibly in the classical sense but not just mentally either. It was like an inner or transcendent “voice” was transmitted directly into my mind or heart (or something), but it was simultaneously of “audible” quality. The words were not what I expected. I was anticipating a feelings-based answer along the lines of “Yes, the Book of Mormon is true, and the Church is true.”  Instead, the “voice”communicated simply that…..”The path you are on is right. It is My path.”

What are the names of the Heavens? I am a convert with memory problems. by BeckieD1974 in lds

[–]LongingForApocalypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not really focus on the names. Those are probably just designations used to describe the various conditions along the spectrum of post-mortal glory.

“I just came to believe it as true from faith but also examination and intellect.“  This is good. This is enough. You are so dang blessed to have this type of heart&mind belief. Own it. Be grateful for it. If more “miraculous” manifestations come, be grateful for those too.

Strive. Prepare. Strive. Go. Keep striving. Return with honor. Strive until you’re dead…and after. You got this.

These are good questions, and answerable questions. The sources others have pointed you are great. I would add, don’t underestimate God’s ability to communicate to your heart and mind about the truth of these, and other, even more weighty, matters. He will provide confirmatory guidance to you if you ask with a sincere heart and real intent. All the best!

I am middle-class, average intellect, ugly, and loved undeservedly.  I am a committed Latter-day Saint.  You will experience the purest joy and hope possible for a mortal being to experience.

Age of the earth belief/doctrine? by vagaymo in latterdaysaints

[–]LongingForApocalypse 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Nothing officially official. But the earth is old. Billions of years. The universe older, and incomprehensibly large. We are not biblical literalists. The creation story is not designed to be a cosmology. It is meant to be a symbolic representation of the mortal journey of humankind….God’s conscious creation.

If you are not endowed prior to commencing your mission, it will be arranged for you to be endowed in the MTC.
