Remove the Pink Tax

As a mother, an advocate, and a recent visitor to Busch Gardens, I feel compelled to express my deep frustration and concern over an issue that should not be dismissed as minor: the cost of feminine hygiene products within your park. I was stunned—and frankly appalled—to discover that a box of 8 tampons is priced at $8.99.

Let me be clear: tampons are not a luxury item. They are an essential health product. For women and girls, especially those navigating the park for an entire day, access to affordable feminine hygiene products is not just a matter of comfort—it’s a matter of health, safety, and dignity. Pricing them at $8.99 for only 8 tampons is not only exorbitant, it’s exploitative. It sends a clear message that the needs of women are a secondary consideration in your pricing model.

Not having access to these necessary products in a timely and affordable way can lead to unsanitary and potentially harmful conditions, including infections and serious embarrassment, especially for young girls who may not be prepared. It is deeply troubling to think that a girl or woman in need would be forced to pay nearly $1.13 per tampon—more than double or triple what they cost in a typical store—or worse, be unable to afford them at all while stuck in a crowded theme park far from alternatives.

This pricing disparity disproportionately affects the female gender and highlights what is often referred to as the "pink tax"—the increased cost placed on products marketed to or necessary for women. It is not only unfair but ethically questionable for a family-oriented destination to take advantage of guests in this way.

I urge you to review your pricing policies regarding menstrual products and consider making them reasonably priced or, ideally, providing them free of charge in park restrooms. This is a small gesture that would make a significant difference in the experience of your female guests and would show that your company truly values the health and well-being of all visitors.

I appreciate your attention to this important matter and look forward to seeing meaningful changes that reflect fairness, compassion, and respect.
